"I highly don't recommend using this company for any remodeling project. Zac came out in June and gave us a quote to remodel our two bathrooms. Although his price was fair, he never actually showed up to do the project. He gave us a start date of 8/18/21. But didn't even give the Tile Shop our measurements for our tile order. So Zac pushed the start date back to 9/15/21. He then never showed up or called. When we finally got a hold of him he gave us an excuse. We gave him the benefit of the doubt only to find out he still didn't place our tile order which he promised he already did. A couple weeks went by and he gave the Tile Shop our measurements and asked us if we could have the tile delivered to our home so it would be ready for him to start. We ended up paying an additional delivery fee to have them delivered. Two days before he was suppose to start for the third time he called us to tell us he had to leave the country for one week and that he would definitely start our project on 10/20/21. It is now 10/26/21 we have all of the materials stored in our garage with a contractor who never showed up or reached out to contact us. I will never recommend this company and everyone should be cautious if you work with The Tile Shop for your tiles because this company is on there recommended contractor list."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Bundling door service with upgrades like window replacement or insulation in Detroit can streamline scheduling and improve your home’s energy efficiency. Coordinating projects often reduces disruption and may qualify for neighborhood group discounts. Spring and fall are ideal for combined work, helping you avoid winter delays. Grouping projects also simplifies permit and inspection processes, making overall home improvement more efficient.

Helpful?

For Detroit’s climate, fiberglass exterior doors resist warping and insulate well, while steel doors with thermal breaks offer added security and require rust prevention. Choose stainless steel or brass hardware to withstand salt exposure, and opt for heavy-duty silicone or EPDM rubber weatherstripping. For energy efficiency, select doors with an R-value of at least 5 and Low-E glass to minimize heat loss during MI winters.

Helpful?

Most door service projects in Detroit, like interior door installation or door repair, take 2-4 hours, while exterior entry door installation can require 4-8 hours. Sliding or storm doors may need more time due to alignment and sealing. Winter weather or supply delays can extend timelines, so it’s best to schedule projects during milder months to ensure efficient completion and fewer interruptions.

Helpful?

In Detroit, door service projects benefit from a seasonal approach. Lubricate hinges and inspect weatherstripping every three months to prevent sticking and drafts. Deep clean doors and check thresholds twice a year, especially after winter to remove salt buildup. Schedule annual professional door inspections to catch early signs of rot or rust, and refinish wood doors as needed to protect against MI’s fluctuating temperatures and humidity.

Helpful?

When hiring door service pros in Detroit, prioritize those with experience in cold-weather installations and older homes. Ensure they carry insurance and have a strong local reputation—ask for references from recent Detroit projects. Look for knowledge of local building codes and security standards. Reliable pros will provide clear estimates, communicate timelines, and never pressure you into quick decisions or cash-only payments.
