"David was incredibly responsive and had great customer service. He cares about the customer being satisfied with the job. The deck turned out very nice. (note: I was a tiny bit worried about the painter diluting the stain (oil based) with water but it seems this is something that's sometimes done when using a sprayer. I do wish it was diluted with mineral based solution vs water but everything seemed to turn out well and I'm happy with my deck)"

"Our kitchen cabinets now look brand new and beautiful, thanks to Rick Remaly Painting and Staining.  After twenty years, our cabinets had accumulated nicks and scratches, and hard to clean grime.  Also the wood  stain on the door below the sink had washed off in places due to dripping water.  We thought about buying new cabinets or replacing cabinet doors, but decided to try re-finishing first as the most cost-effective solution, and we?re so glad we did.  The difference is quite dramatic.Rick arrived on time and finished the work fairly quickly.  More importantly he was able to match the existing wood stain, so that it blended in perfectly.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

Aftercare includes routine cleaning, checking for water repellency, and promptly addressing any chips or peels, maintaining the deck's appearance and functionality.

The best way to protect a deck is to prevent damage from UV light, water, mold, mildew, insects, and abrasive cleaning methods. Sweep regularly to prevent debris that hides bugs and traps moisture that can result in mold or mildew growth. Use a deck cleaner once a year to remove algae, mold, and mildew. Avoid using pressure washers on high, as they can damage the wood. Applying a deck sealant can protect the wood from UV and water damage, and adding shade can also reduce sunlight damage.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.

Many decking oils can help slow down algae growth, but they don't completely stop it. These oils work by sealing the wood, which reduces moisture and, therefore, algae growth. Some decking oils also help protect against UV damage, but they need to be reapplied according to the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure the decking stays protected.
