"I recently hired Ethan and his team to paint my house and stain my deck, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. From start to finish, they were incredibly professional and easy to work with. Communication throughout the entire process was excellent. They were responsive, clear about timelines, and kept me updated every step of the way. It really made the whole project feel smooth and stress-free. The crew was also extremely polite and respectful while working at my home. They took great care with everything, and their attention to cleanliness really stood out. At the end of each day, the area was neat and organized, which I really appreciated. Most importantly, the quality of the work speaks for itself. The house looks fantastic and the deck staining turned out great. It’s clear they take pride in what they do. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for painting or staining work. Professional, communicative, clean, and courteous — a great team all around."

"The TRuePro painter did a outstanding job of painting my summer cottage. He paid a great of attention to details after doing a power wash. He then did a very excellent job using a paint roller and a brush making sure to cover every portion of wood surface involved. The result was my "old" cottage looked new again! I would highly recommend the painter and his work!"

"Outstanding. Rick and his team did an amazing job. They communicated through out the whole process. Finished on time even with a humidity challenge, not their fault. The baseboards looked amazing, and you couldn't even see where the walls needed repaired."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

To make sure the paint won’t bubble as you apply it, make sure to paint on a day that’s cooler than 85 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature is too high, the paint won’t dry evenly, which can result in bubbles forming on the surface. Another way to prevent paint from bubbling is to clean the walls, apply primer, and let everything dry completely before you begin.

DIY staining or painting is manageable with proper preparation, including safety measures, necessary tools, and adherence to safe weather conditions for application.

It’s best to use an exterior latex acrylic paint to promote maximum adhesion to composite decking. This flexible paint type can better cope with the natural expansion and contraction that can occur with composite deck boards. Oil-based paints won’t adhere as effectively and are more likely to crack and peel as the boards flex. Testing whether your chosen paint will stick on an inconspicuous section or a spare board is a good idea.

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Painting a damaged pool deck is not recommended if the substrate is crumbling, cracking, spalling, or otherwise actively deteriorating. Continuing deterioration will result in the paint also delaminating or flaking off the damaged surface. Minor damage such as chips or hairline cracks that are not actively deteriorating can often be repaired enough to paint over. A damaged pool deck with a lot of cracking and deterioration should be replaced for best results.
