"We hired FoamWorks to insulate the roof deck of our 125 year old home. They were exceptionally accommodating as we are doing the rest of the remodel work ourselves. They communicated well, were prompt, professional and left a clean job site. We are very happy with the results! While not cheap it is truly the only way to do it right! Worth every penny."

"We had a guy come out and assess our insulation and he was kind of creepy. The way he talked, the way he went up in the attic and grabbed a handful of insulation, showed us what was there and got it all over the couch and the floor, and he ended up telling me  that he didn't think that I needed anymore insulation. I guess he was honest and I was a bit creeped out. He didn't make a bid because he didn't think I needed any more insulation. I'm pretty certain that we would not call them again."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Spray foam insulation can last between 80 and 100 years, depending on the type. Closed-cell spray foam is more durable, while open-cell foam is more susceptible to moisture damage and deterioration. It's important to consult a professional installer to understand which type of foam will be used and its specific longevity. Additionally, be aware that some spray foams can damage plastic piping, so if you have PVC or CPVC pipes, discuss this with your installer.

There are several strategic ways to lower your home insurance premium. The primary one is to shop around and get quotes every few years to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Also, sometimes bundling your auto and homeowner’s insurance will get you a discount on both. Finally, try to keep your credit score up; many homeowner insurance companies use credit scores to generate quotes.

Yes, you can install insulation over ductwork, and doing so can save you money. Without insulation, the HVAC unit must work harder to force warm or cool air around the home, and once the air reaches the vent, it may not be the correct temperature. Insulating HVAC ducts makes your system work more efficiently, saving you money on heating and cooling bills.

Yes, you need a 1.5-inch to 2-inch air gap in a cathedral ceiling to allow proper air flow and prevent cathedral ceiling venting problems. This amount of airspace allows warm, moist air to properly leave your ceiling to avoid moisture build-up and other issues that put your home at risk. You can also add an air vent for extra air flow.

The thickness of floor insulation will depend on the R-value you plan to achieve. R-value varies on the type of material as well as its thickness and density. Insulation materials with low R-values can be layered to match the value of denser materials. As long as your floor insulation is packed tightly, seals the area from drafts, and doesn’t prevent ventilation, it can be as thick (or thin) as you need.
