"I was on the market for a security system and this one seemed easy enough to install.......went through the process and some of the window sensors were not working. I called Customer Support who was very friendly and we went through the entire process again...this time other window sensors did not work. This went on for a week or so...then the door senors stopped working....than the motion sensor stopped working...at no time in over a month did I have a fully operational security system. As I was about to return the system I was told they have "new" sensors and they just realized they received a bad batch and are working with another company.....Gave it a try....and same issue returned....some sensors worked....some didn't. I finally returned the system and stopped getting emails.....only to find that they were still billing my credit card even after I returned the equipment. Very nice people and very understanding.....unfortunately their product is not up to par. While we do have a large home, it's an open concept and the sensors that weren't working were no more than 15ft away from the base. The previous owners of my house had a wireless system with no issues at all.....I'm going to be using that company going forward."

Guardian Alarm has been protecting families and businesses since 1930 and is the largest family owned and operated security company in North America. Protect your family from home invasion and desperate criminals when you are there, and protect your valuables from vandals and thieves when you are away. Every 14.6 seconds a burglary occurs in the US. Homes without monitored security systems are 3X more likely to be burglarized than homes with a security system. We have an award winning service and technical staff. Our industry leading UL Listed, FM Approved Monitoring Center is hard at work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, monitoring your home, so you don’t have to worry about the safety of your loved one and property!

"Have had negative experiences with Guardian Alarm through the years (raising prices, poor service, unable to fix issues, etc.). On 28Oct25, with the Waterford Emergency Manager and Deputy Police Chief, we tested Guardian Alarm response time at the church by triggering the silent alarm. It took ~6 minutes before Guardian called Police dispatch. Absolutely unacceptable and pathetic. Worse yet, is that after 1 call to customer support and 2 emails to our Guardian Alarm account rep throughout the week, Guardian Alarm has yet to send out a tech or contact us with root cause and plan for corrective action. We pay well over $600/quarter for basically the worst service money can buy. If safety is important, find a more reputable alarm company. DO NOT RECOMMEND GUARDIAN ALARM!!!"

With Uxari, you and your home are connected, automatically. You choose what to connect (devices) and we do the connecting (wireless services plan). Plus, we do it for as little as $99 down with monthly payments as low as $34.99. At Uxari, you will talk to a real person when you have a question, 7 days a week. So go ahead, start enjoying your new life style, knowing answers to all your questions are only a call or an e-mail away. And the best part is all of our services come with a 30-day, risk-free trial. We believe in not only finding exactly the right plan for you, but making sure you’re completely satisfied with it, too.

"The Smart Home features they installed, such as thermostat and door locks, etc. do not always work. For example, the Honeywell thermostat can no longer be operated from our phones and is difficult to install. Remote door locks are also unpredictable."

Habitec Security, founded in 1972, is headquartered in Toledo, Ohio and has two full-service branches in Columbus, Ohio and Charlevoix, Michigan. Habitec is ranked No. 60 in the nation according to the top 100 rankings compiled by the Security Distributing & Marketing (SDM), a leading industry publication. Habitec, one of the largest family-owned and operated security companies in the Midwest, monitors all of their 17,000 customers from their own U.L. monitoring center. The entire Habitec team consists of over 80 employees with an average of 20+ years in the security industry and are leaders in residential & commercial security systems, access control, fire alarm design/installation, video surveillance, home automation and medical alert.

"Installation was problematic in minor ways. They drilled into backsplash tile in my kitchen only to discover later that it was unnecessary, leaving a hole in my tile. But the real problem is in the customer service and monitoring. Last week, I was home alone when a man entered our fully fenced-in backyard. He looked around and appeared to be casing our house. I called the police, who asked for the security footage from our cameras. That is when I discovered both cameras (back yard and behind garage) were not working. Apparently, the backyard camera had been offline for more than two weeks, unbeknownst to us. Habitec did not monitor cameras being offline, and told me that it is my responsibility to check the cameras every day. We are still paying for a security system that frequently goes offline or does not work. Habitec has been awful at making it right. They even tried to charge us a service fee to come fix it. They eventually waived the service fee, but--most importantly--my husband is out of town for the next few weeks, and I'm home alone with a malfunctioning security system and no backyard camera all while knowing that a man trespassed into our backyard and looked around and was trying to size up our house. Habitec has been really unprofessional in its response, even hostile. I would not recommend using them. Most of the reviews on here are of their installation. Ask those same people 12 months later when they have had malfunctioning equipment what they think of Habitec. That's when your problems come. We wanted to like them, since they are based here in Ohio, but the service has been terrible. Acting like we did something wrong just wanting our cameras that we are paying for to work."

Cybersecurity Visual Surveillance / Smart Security Cameras Professional computer networks Professional WiFi systems Door access Controls Structured low-voltage wiring Annex (barn / garage) internet / camera links.

"Alex hooked my home up with high quality, evenly distributed wifi. With his knowledge and skillset, he devised a plan to get me evenly distributed wifi by running cat6 cable efficiently throughout my house to key locations for the UniFi access points. I currently get ~250 mbps download speed on the wifi in every room, before the install I would get ~60 mbps download speed in some rooms in my house. He also ran cat6 to key locations for my home security cameras. I admit, I know absolutely nothing about home wifi/security camera hook up, but Alex guided and advised me through the whole process: from the initial walk through of what I wanted my home wifi/security to be like, to pointing me in the direction of good deals on wifi equipment/modem/back up battery/etc. and to all of the cat6 cable runs. Lastly, everything I was promised, Alex delivered on. Not only was the install timely and fast, but his attention to detail never lacked. I would highly recommend Alex if you are looking for either great evenly distributed wifi and/or full home security cameras installed by someone who knows what they are doing."

Home Automation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a home security system in an old house. In fact, you can install a security system in any home. Some wiring may need to be added, but most home security systems do not require a lot of additional wiring. Wireless security systems can easily be installed with minimal additional wiring, if any at all. Most wireless security systems can be monitored and controlled from your smartphone, and the cameras and sensors operate on batteries.

This is the topic of much debate, though there is no “better,” as it depends on personal preferences. Some of the components of a wireless system keep working when the power goes out, as they are battery-powered. On the other hand, a wireless system typically connects to your modem and router. Wired systems use landlines to communicate, which never go out on their own unless they’re physically cut.

Yes, many installations offer mobile and cloud-based access for real-time monitoring.

You can still install a smart thermostat without a C-wire, but it may not work as accurately or efficiently without one. Without a C-wire, a smart thermostat may disrupt Wi-Fi connectivity to other devices or can cause the HVAC system to cycle continuously, which puts more strain on the system and can lead to damage.

If your home security system relies on the internet for operational purposes, then there’s a chance someone could hack into it. Fortunately, the chances of hacking occurring are low, but it’s something to be aware of. Wired security cameras or cameras that store data on a local server and not a cloud-based server have an even lower probability of getting hacked.
