"For the money I spent to have them paint my house, and the quality of their work I’d say 2 stars. I am finding more and more spots where they have paint drips, chunks, over spray and spots where they look like they were running out of paint. Most of these spots you can’t see unless you have the lighting just right. Which thankfully you can’t see otherwise. But moving furniture and moving my floor lamps is how I noticed these issues 6 months after the fact. As a new homeowner you live and learn…I will make sure to use a fine toothed comb on anyone I hire from now on."

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. Technically, yes, there are lawn “paints” that you can use to dye your lawn to a greener color, often made out of nontoxic biodegradable materials. This is a potential band-aid to your problem, but it rarely has perfect results. First, yellowed grass is usually frail and lacks the springiness of healthy grass, so your lawn may still look unhealthy no matter the color. Second, lawn paints only work for the short term, and wash away after a couple of months (depending on your climate).
