I texted Mike a few months later & requested a quote. Mike came over & took a look at the work that I wanted to have him to give me a quote/estimate on. He walked into my house & walked past 2 big boxes that were sitting in my front hallway. I told him that there were 2 vanities inside. He told me that they specialized in bathroom & kitchen remodeling. He also told me that I should go on their website & see the various projects that they have worked on. A few days later, Mike emailed a quote to me for the amount he would charge for each repair or installation. I replied, That is "Very" reasonable! There are a few signs that indicate a failing drain field. For instance, if your septic tank starts requiring more pumping than normal, your drain field might be failing. Other signs to watch for include poor drainage after rain, standing water or sewage over the septic system, a strong septic smell outside, new and healthy grass growing over the drain field, and plumbing backups in your sinks, bathtubs, or toilets.

The best time of year to pump a septic tank is spring because the ground is thawed and snowmelt and rainfall can help with proper drainage. Having your septic tank pumped before the summer months is ideal to avoid conflicting with vacations and outdoor summer gatherings. Fall is also a great time to pump your septic tank, and it can be less busy for contractors than the spring.

There are three layers of wastewater in a septic tank: scum (solid waste that floats to the top of the wastewater), liquid (the relatively clean liquid wastewater in between the two other layers), and sludge (solid waste that falls to the bottom of the wastewater). The buildup of sludge is one of the main reasons septic tanks need to be pumped. If the tank is more than 1/3 of the way full with a combination of sludge and scum, it’s time to call a pro for pumping.

There are several homemade solutions for clearing a clogged sink that don’t involve pouring harsh chemicals down your drain. Start by pouring hot (but not boiling) water down the drain. This can help dissolve and flush away grease and gunk. A splash of dish soap down the drain can also cut through fat and make it easier to clear the drain. For a more stubborn blockage, grab a plunger and give it a few firm pumps to dislodge the clog.
