"Jim is very easy to work with. Jim repaired some of the brick paving where I had some water accumulation issue and extended the brick paving and did a good job. He also replaced the front steps with bricks where I had broken concrete bricks and did a great job. The only issue I have is that he takes long long time to complete each task which is an inconvenience for me but eventually he finishes those and not very disciplined to come back to finish as he promises. I am still waiting for one more project to finish which he has not started yet."

However, you should make sure that the sand is not soaked; overwatering can cause the sand and pavers to not set properly.

If your driveway is cracked, you can repave it with a process called asphalt overlay. Overlay is more cost-effective than a full replacement but is better suited for minor cracks and issues. If you have major cracks or other problems like water pooling, asphalt overlay isn’t your best bet. Plus, paving over a cracked driveway only extends the lifetime by about 10 years, whereas replacing it would start the clock over completely to give you up to 30 years.

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.
