"Stradinger (Tim) & Bobby far exceeded our expectations! Never hired a contractor before. They did the design; executed the construction; always were prompt, courteous & patient with us (VERY PATIENT). Despite the near zero weather, they were here. The attention to detail and quality were exceptional! Stayed within budget which afforded us the ability to put in new flooring; new laundry room; insulate the attic and many details & ideas that really makes our home OUR HOME. I would strongly consider & recommend Stradinger Building to EVERYONE!! COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!!...THANKS TIM & BOBBY!!!"

"Ecolecuá offers a unique collaborative approach with her clients. On our project, she struck the perfect balance; she listened to our ideas and feedback but very much maintained her role as the creative expert, making us feel comfortable the entire time. I would absolutely recommend Ecolecuá with no hesitation. With all she has done, she is going to find the right approach for just about any client. Aileen Dominguez Dentist, Boston, Massachusetts"

"Well! Lakes painting was very responsive and work with me to adjust our 'Big Deal'. Instead of the 3 rooms included in the deal, we only wanted 2 rooms painted, but they included the ceilings. Showed up when scheduled, very pleasant, and did a great job! If I need interior painting again, I will call them.

"I hired Northstarr Builders after talking to a dozen different builders about two additions on the house. The first, doubling the existing garage, was fairly straightforward. The second, constructing a sunroom that would also function as a breezeway between the house and garage was more complex. Most of the builders I talked to either could not figure out how to make it happen, quoted me ridiculously high prices, or wanted to speak to my husband (rather than to me, who drew the basic designs to submit to the city, pulled the permits, and was paying for the addition). Marty at Northstarr was not only confident that they would be able to complete my custom sunroom but he conversed with me in a respectful manner and was very straightforward when discussing the cost-breakdown of all labor and materials. It has now been 6 months since the build was completed and we are very happy with both our additions. They were able to connect the house and garage (which did not sit parallel to each other, or have the same roof pitch or level) with a unique 6-sided room that we get many compliments on and the extra garage space has been very useful! Would definitely recommend them, especially for projects where you have to think outside the box."

Interior Design and Decorating questions, answered by experts

Yes, many providers offer design consultations to ensure the furniture meets your needs and style preferences.

Yes, professionals will offer tailored solutions to fit architectural and personal style preferences.

While the terms 'interior designer' and 'interior decorator' are often used interchangeably, they represent distinct professions with some overlapping work. The primary difference lies in the scope of their projects.

An interior decorator focuses on the aesthetics of a space, making less permanent decisions about decor. Their work involves selecting colors, fabrics, furniture, wall art, paint, and other finishes to 'dress' a room and enhance its style.

An interior designer has a broader scope that includes a decorator's aesthetic focus but also extends to the structural and functional aspects of a space. Designers are qualified to plan layouts, make structural changes, and manage overall functionality. They handle permanent decisions regarding fixtures like cabinets and bathtubs, establish floor plans, and may hire contractors.

Due to the technical skills required, interior designers typically have formal education, certification, and may hold a license, which can result in higher fees. As a general rule, it is best to hire an interior designer for major remodeling projects and an interior decorator for projects focused on establishing or refreshing a home's interior style.

The main difference between a home stager and an interior designer is that the former creates temporary, generally appealing spaces, while the latter creates personalized design choices for your permanent home. A home stager seeks to depersonalize your home while also showing off the best features of the home to potential buyers. An interior designer works with you to infuse your personal style into the decor in your home. You’ll typically only hire a local home stager when selling your home.

Deciding to hire an interior designer or an interior decorator is entirely dependent on what you’re looking for out of your project and your budget. Interior decorators typically cost less than interior designers, both in hourly rates and overall project costs.

If you want to add furnishings to your home but it’s otherwise set with permanent fixtures, an interior decorator would be best for you. However, if you are looking to remodel your home or are building a new home and would like help with permanent structures like cabinets, showers, and overall layouts, an interior designer is best.
