"They washed my exterior windows and screens. Had some streaks and spots on a few windows (the 2nd story ones) and they didn't clean out the tracks like I asked. Had to do it myself from the inside- at least what I could access. Would probably give them a second chance if they agreed to clean the tracks."

"I have worked with these folks for 4 years. They are always professional and their work is fantastic. I have rehired them several times to clean a large rental home that we own in Hillsdale."

House Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Most DIY floor cleaners don’t require rinsing, but you’ll want to make sure you don’t add too much dish soap or oil to the cleaner to avoid having to rinse it after cleaning. For non-wood floors, mix 8 parts warm water, 1 part vinegar, and 1 part baking soda with a few drops of dish soap. For wood floors, use olive oil in that same mixture instead of the vinegar. You can let these solutions air-dry after cleaning your floors with them, although you should manually dry your floors if they aren’t waterproof.

Many housekeepers offer move-out cleaning services. However, your housekeeper is likely to charge a higher rate for this service since move-outs typically require more extensive deep cleaning than a standard housekeeping service.

There are a few things you should look for in a house cleaner to make sure that your home is treated with respect and remains secure, and that you get high-quality service. Start by looking for an experienced company that is insured and has references they can provide. Next, prioritize cleaners that offer the specific services you need and can commit to a cleaning schedule that works with your schedule. Finally, ask your cleaner about satisfaction guarantees and their cleaning process to make sure you hire the right company.

No, you should never use isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean flat paint or paint with any other finish. Isopropyl alcohol works similarly to a paint thinner, so it’s likely to liquify the paint on your walls and leave damaged or bare areas. For stubborn stains, try mixing one cup of vinegar or baking soda into a bucket of warm water and scrubbing very gently with a soft sponge. If the stain or soiling is pervasive, touch up the area by repainting the affected areas.

The best cleaner to remove soot depends on the surface material and the type of fire, but consider dish soaps or degreasers, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen. Low-oxygen fires often leave behind greasy soot, which is best removed with dish soaps or degreasers. Baking soda can be useful for absorbing soot deposits from carpets, followed by rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean the set-in stains.
