"Generators of Maine just completed the installation of a 14kw generator with parallel transfer switches, to protect 2 separate metered panels at a rental property that I own. I didn't even know that this was possible, until Doug Sawyer suggested it. The incremental cost of protecting the additional panel with the parallel transfer switch arrangement was a fraction the cost of an additional generator and transfer switch. Throughout the job, Doug and his crew were awesome. I am a terrible snoop who enjoys technology, so I hung around just watching and learning. They didn't seem to mind my presence and were friendly and informative through out the install. Every aspect of the job was 100% top-notch. Doug also managed to under bid his nearest competitor on every component and aspect of the job, including the annual maintenance contract, which I deemed to be worth the $$$. I highly recommend Generators of Maine."

"WB Lightning Rods did an excellent job installing lightening rods on our home. The owner stayed onsite the entire time to supervise the work. He took extra care to plan the rod and cable placement to ensure the proper protection and retain the aesthetics of our home. His crew were knowledgeable, polite, neat and efficient. We could not be more pleased with the results."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Rumford, older homes often have knob-and-tube wiring hidden behind plaster walls, making electrical upgrades more complex. Multi-level layouts or additions can create hard-to-access areas for running new circuits. Balloon framing and granite foundations may limit wire fishing, while post-and-beam construction can restrict access. Seasonal frost heave may also affect foundation stability, complicating electrical upgrades and requiring careful planning.

Helpful?

After finishing electrical work in Rumford, promptly arrange for a municipal inspection and keep detailed records of upgrades for insurance purposes. Update your policy to reflect improvements. Each spring, check outdoor wiring for ice or snow damage and inspect basement circuits for moisture after thaw. Test generators before winter, confirm heat pump connections, and regularly monitor panels and GFCI outlets for electrical safety.

Helpful?

In Rumford, prioritize immediate attention to knob-and-tube wiring, outdated panels, or any signs of water-damaged circuits, as these pose safety risks. Overloaded circuits, especially those supporting heat pumps before winter, should be addressed promptly. Schedule non-urgent electrical upgrades for late spring to early fall, when weather is favorable and seasonal rebates may be available, but always act quickly if safety is a concern.

Helpful?

The longevity of electrical upgrades in Rumford depends on using materials rated for wide temperature swings and high humidity, especially near the Androscoggin River. Proper surge protection and grounding are vital due to frequent ice storms and power fluctuations. Addressing corrosion from older mill emissions and high water tables is important. Always ensure permits are secured and that work meets local electrical safety codes for lasting results.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Rumford, select THWN-2 wire for moisture resistance and aluminum or stainless steel conduit outdoors to prevent corrosion. Choose weather-resistant panels and surge protectors suitable for frequent lightning. Use copper grounding conductors to handle local soil acidity, and opt for UV-resistant materials on south-facing exteriors. Always pick supplies that local professionals can service and that meet electrical safety standards.
