"Harvey is a knowledgable pro and had a creative approach to our unique project; installing a commercial salt therapy room. His associate, Ryan, did a great job installing. Can't say enough good things about these folks! Estimate was reasonable and bill had no surprises."

"Repairs were excellent and thorough "even well documented". The tech found units low on coolant. He identified and repaired multiple refrigerant leak points. I have dealt with many HVAC contractors over the years and Freedom Air Mechanical is one of the best. I highly recommend."

"Harvey promised a great deal when he gave me his quote. He and his techs delivered all of it. Corey and John , plus Harvey did a great job installing the new Weil Mclain Boiler and removing all the old equipment. Corey and John worked together as a team and the work was performed in a very timely manner. Professional men in every way. I am 71 years old and these young men showed a work ethic that I remember years ago. It was a great experience. I will be using this contractor again. Maine Natural Gas Company and there employees met all the due dates. Ron B. Windham, ME"

"Very prompt and good follow thru. I was asking for a cleaning and then someone that could support my burner and boiler. He was tied up but got right back to me. I had to contact a local company on topsham for timing."

"It exceeded my expectations. The initial consultation really assured me that I was getting exactly what I needed and nothing more. The installers were very knowledgeable. I was also very impressed with how well they explained the preventative maintenance agreement on the unit. It gave me peace of mind, which is priceless in terms of the value of the job. Overall it was a great experience."

"Chuck arrived one day after the freeze-up was found. There had been another company on site the day before and they were not willing to take on a large project like this. Chuck and Zach stayed with the house until the entire project was finished. They worked day and night to restore the boiler, heating pipes, plumbing pipes and fixtures, completing everything in one week. They knew to heat the house slowly for the first forty eight hours in order to avoid further damage, and were careful to replace each pipe individually, checking for splits and bursts before moving to the others. This was a project for plumbers who cared about the homeowner and their house.  CZ Plumbing is a company commendable for their high quality work and integrity.

"I was highly pleased with Jim's work. He not only accomplished everything on my list, but he made several suggestions on several
issues that added further performance improvements.
Jim's response time from my original call was excellent. He is very easy to work with, communicates well and is very customer-oriented.

The amount he charged me for the work done and considering the time spent traveling to my house, doing the work and answering my questions and giving me advice was very reasonable.
I highly recommend Jim for computer installation, network issues,  problem resolution and performance improvement. I will definitely call him in the future for any new issues I have.

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Many utility companies and government programs offer rebates or incentives for the installation of high-efficiency propane boilers. These can offset upfront costs and improve your return on investment. Check with your local utility or installer for current offers. Incentives vary by state and provider, so exploring regional programs can help maximize your savings.

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

A furnace is a big unit where gas, heating oil, or electricity heats the air. The warmed air is then pushed back out through ducts and vents.

A boiler uses electricity, heating oil, or gas to heat water that is pushed into the room through a radiator. This is one of the oldest and most effective ways to heat a house, but radiators can also be unsightly and leave hot and cold spots in the room.

Heat pumps use a refrigerant to move heat from outside into the house and return it to the room through ducts and vents.

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

Costs depend on unit size, labor, fuel type, and whether additional piping or venting is needed.
