"This has been the best plumbing expirence of my life. After waiting 18 months for 4 different plumbers to give us a quote, I had all but given up. We originally just needed a washer line run, but by the time i found Royal Flush, we had a list of thibns that had broken. Everything was fixed in a day and a half at an amazing price. "I called several other plumbers thinking my well pump died. Other guys started right in talking about big money to replace pump etc. I talked to Quincy on the phone and he was the only one who wanted to come out and actually diagnose the problem. Turned out it was just a bad pressure switch. He ended up replacing the pressure switch and the pressure tank because is was old and not in good shape. He worked quickly and efficiently and he had my water fixed in just a couple hours. I highly recommend G&M plumbing and will definitely call them the next time I have any plumbing issues."

Plumbing FAQs, answered by experts

PVC pipes are easy to cut out and replace if you have minimum plumbing knowledge. To replace a portion of PVC pipe by yourself, use a hacksaw to cut out the damaged portion and empty out the water. Then, attach the new pipe and secure the ends with the proper PVC pipe fittings to prevent any leakage.

A water hammer refers to the banging or knocking sound you hear in your water pipes after you turn off your faucet or when your washing machine or dishwater fills. This happens when highly pressurized water suddenly stops moving in your pipes due to a valve closing or your well pump shutting down quickly. Try adjusting the pressure setting on your water pressure tank—it should be below 50 psi (pounds per square inch). Or have a plumber install a water hammer arrestor.

No, you can’t drain your sump pump into your home’s sewer system. In fact, it’s against the law in many places because dumping extra water into a municipal water system can disrupt or overwhelm the treatment process. And for similar reasons, you shouldn’t discharge a sump pump into your septic system, either.

Most people tend to use outdoor spigots more frequently in the summer. Watering plants, filling kiddie pools, having neighborhood water fights, and washing cars and pets are all outdoor activities people do when it's hot and sunny. The heat causes the pipes to expand, weakening the metal and creating cracks. The sudden spike in water use combined with this effect is why pipes burst often in the summer.

You can use a water gauge to check that water pressure, which should be between 40 and 60 PSI. If you don’t have a water gauge, you can also time how long your showerhead takes to fill up a 1-liter container. If it takes longer than 6 seconds, you’re dealing with a case of low water pressure.
