Frequent mowing helps limit the spread of Johnsongrass and can even deplete carbohydrate reserves in rhizomes over time. The more time you leave in between mowing, the more likely Johnsongrass is to regrow and take over your lawn. 

For the best results, plan on mowing about mid-morning. Give the grass enough time to dry out from any leftover dew and then mow. This way, the grass has the rest of the day to recover in the sunlight. Otherwise, mow in the afternoon once the heat of the day has passed.
