"I would rate Scott E. Anderson Painting and Wallpaper Hanging higher than 5, if i could, on value for money. Scott and Dennis are terrific. They arrived when they said they would. They tidied up each day. We hired Scott to remove wallpaper and prep the walls for paint or new paper. Scott was very helpful with advice for components of the project we are going to do on our own. The project included paper removal, plaster repair/patch, and prep for three rooms in the 1804 portion of our house. In the 1985 portion of the house, paper was removed in a bedroom, two bathrooms, and a den. Dents, dings, and holes were repaired, and the walls prepped for paint or paper, here as well. Near the end of the project we negotiated with Scott to paint a bathroom, not in the original project scope. During the project, my husband had a medical emergency. Scott and Dennis were able to continue working to ensure the project was completed on time. We didn't have Scott paint or paper any of the rooms stripped because we only recently purchased the home and have not made decisions on color or paper. The first task was to get the old paper off and out! We are very pleased with the results. We will use Scott again. We highly recommend Scott E. Anderson Painting and Wallpaper Hanging."

Emergency services offered

"Bill was excellent! He always replied to my calls or emails. We set up an appointment and he was there when promised. He, along with another carpenter, Bob, did an outstanding job. They were well organized, showing me what they were doing all along the way, and finished in a timely manner. Bill even charged me less than the original quote (almost half). It is difficult to find contractors that are responsible, honest and that do quality work. I HIGHLY recommend QHI for any services you may need around your home."

Small jobs welcome

"Inspire Home Services did an EXCELLENT JOB. We engaged them to get our stair rails replaced, install baseboards and to paint the interiors. Installing the stair rails proved to be a bit difficult. It took them extra time to complete than what they had originally anticipated and gave me a quote for. However, I was not charged an extra dime more. The quality of work was superb, not compromising in any way. They paid every attention to detail, grouted, painted the rails and did an awesome job. The interior painting went very well. She showed up on time every single day. Multiple coats were provided for darker colors. Some of my walls were fully hand painted instead of the traditional rollers for a much better look and feel.Wall blemishes were all taken care of with no price increase!!! She also painted a hard to reach wall above my stair way and reinstalled the glass fixtures. Very hard working. Never slowed down a bit. They are ethical, hard working, polite and obviously take pride in doing a job right! Inspire is on my favorite list for any future carpentry or painting work."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.

Options include bricks, natural stone, and concrete blocks. Choose based on durability, aesthetics, and budget.

Walls should be as smooth as possible before applying peel-and-stick wallpaper. Although you technically can apply wallpaper on textured walls, the peel-and-stick variety won’t last long without a clean, smooth surface for the adhesive to stick to. If you have textured walls, consult a pro about removing the textured finish before moving forward with wallpaper.

Once again, contact with moisture is the culprit here, though water-resistant varieties of wallpaper are less likely to become wet and develop mold. Using a high-quality exhaust fan or dehumidifier and leaving the doors or windows cracked after bathing will keep this issue at bay.

Yes, many installation and painting services include wall preparation, such as patching holes, smoothing surfaces, sanding, and priming. It is recommended to confirm the specific preparations included with your provider.
