"We have been a Palmer customer for 6 years. The front office and the technicians has always been great to work with. We have been using their AC and Heating Service Plan and on automatic oil and propane fill for years and we have never had an issue. My most recent experience was today for the AC Service Plan. The technician (David) was very polite, experienced, knowledgeable and respectful of our time and home. It’s always a great experience to have maintenance conducted in you home and have the technicians give you expert advice on your heating and AC system. "AC condenser developed a coolant leak in July. Contacted Mike Roman through Home Advisor. Mike responded super fast and was able to swing by my house and get the system up and running strong in just a few hours. Given the heat we were experiencing, the time Mike spent laboring hard in my very hot attic and the end result being a great running system, I cannot say enough great things about the work Mike does. The DOE is phasing out AC units with SEER ratings that fall below 14 or 15. The exact minimum rating depends on your region. In the northern United States, new ACs must have a minimum SEER rating of 14, though you can still buy and install older systems as long as they were compliant when they were manufactured. In the southern and southwestern United States, you cannot buy or install older air conditioners with lower SEER ratings. The minimum rating is between 14.5 and 15, depending on the power of the unit.

There are ways to detect a refrigerant leak with several different testing methods. However, most homeowners can figure out something’s wrong with their AC unit by noticing these common signs:

  • Ice forming on the evaporator coil

  • Water leaks near the AC unit

  • Unit takes longer than usual to cool
