"I recently had my driveway done by the Driveway Guys and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, Chris and his team were professional, reliable, and clearly took pride in their work. They communicated everything clearly, showed up on time, and paid close attention to detail throughout the entire process. I highly recommend using this company"

"Jason and his crew did an outstanding job resurfacing our old driveway. He came out and gave us an estimate in early spring and even though gas prices etc have gone up still only charged us the original estimate price when they completed the job a couple of months later. He and his whole crew of guys were a pleasure to work with and we are so happy with the finished looks of our driveway. we highly recommend Jason for any work that you need done ."

"We were extremely impressed by Asphalt Techs as they arrived this morning around 9AM. They worked diligently all day to remove the old driveway. None of them walked but ran from one task to another. The were neat and clean, and polite. The prepared driveway was then blacktopped and finished by 3:30 or 4. Brandon LaSante, the owner was knowledgeable and answered our questions without any pressure when he came a couple weeks ago to give us an estimate. He was a pleasure to work with. We are very happy with the finished driveway and highly recommend him and his crew at Asphalt Techs. And his trucks and equipment was clean."

"Pleasant and customer focused; requested a short notice (4 day) upgrade of driveway before Thanksgiving... at first he was not able to fit us in. He then showed up and completed the work before the holiday. We expect to have additional work done in the spring. Highly recommend!"

"Ruck Paving's crew did a fantastic job! They removed all the old pavement and regraded the driveway in the morning and paved it right after lunch. From the time I contacted Ruck to the time they were here doing the job was less than 2 weeks. A previous contract that I had with another paving outfit hasn't even contacted me in over 5 months. Will never use them again. If I need paving done I will call Ruck. Professional crew from start to finish."

"I highly recommend MHT for paving and landscaping. Paul Mercier is a true professional who really knows his business, and does an exceptional job at a rate that is not only comparable but very reasonable for the results you get. We hired Paul Mercier in the spring of 2015 to pave over our 20-year-old 440-foot driveway, which has two switchbacks and winds its way up a ledge. When the driveway was first laid in 1995, it was not done properly with enough of a foundation. Over the years we did various patch repairs, which never lasted for long. When we found Paul, we were overjoyed to have someone who knew what he was doing, and actually did it! Paul, along with his great crew, gave us a REAL driveway, with a 2-3” base, which has lasted for 3.5 years WITHOUT ANY CRACKS OR DAMAGE due to frost heaves since putting it in. This past September of 2018, we invited him back to seal coat the driveway, as well as shore up the edges with 3-4” stones to prevent washout on the sides of the driveway. He suggested adding some crushed gravel to one side of the driveway to create extra parking areas for our in-home business, which we proceeded to do and are very happy with. He also laid down some crushed gravel to prepare a patio under our deck for future installation. Paul is very thorough and detail-oriented, and will make suggestions based on your needs, and what will work for the long run as well as tell you what won’t. I recommend him HIGHLY for your next paving/landscaping project!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

A solid driveway starts with the right asphalt mix, and for most homes, dense-graded hot mix asphalt (HMA) is the most recommended. It’s both durable and flexible, making it a reliable choice for residential use. A properly compacted 2-3 inch layer on a well-prepared crushed stone base will hold up for years. In areas with harsh winters or scorching summers, a slightly modified mix can help prevent cracking and rutting. No matter the climate, quality installation is just as important as the material itself, so hiring an experienced contractor ensures a smooth, long-lasting driveway built to last.

Asphalt, which is stone mixed with tar, is the most common material for outdoor basketball courts because it’s so sturdy and versatile. However, you don't have to use it: another option is polymeric rubber, which has shock pads that can prevent injury. This option is a little more expensive, ranging between $16 and $25 per square foot.

Materials used for indoor basketball courts, such as hardwoods, aren’t really an option outdoors.

When comparing installation costs, asphalt is often less expensive upfront than concrete. Asphalt prices typically range from $7 to $15 per square foot, while concrete can range from $3 to $18 per square foot. However, long-term costs should also be considered. Concrete driveways generally last longer (up to twice as long) and require less maintenance, which can make them more affordable over their lifespan. While asphalt has a lower installation cost and is easier to repair, it requires more frequent maintenance, such as sealing, which can add up over time. Therefore, while concrete is more expensive initially, its durability may offset the cost in the long run.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.
