"He just fixed it!! A very nice man. Came, looked at central vacuum determined the problem and fixed it. No sales pitch no telling me how old the machine was and that it would soon need to be replaced. He also checked all filters and said was. Good"

"FABULOUS!! Ten Star Rating!!!!!! I can't truly say I hired Richard though. He called me 5 minutes after I contacted Service Master, and over the phone he diagnosed the problem with my central vacuum AND told me how to fix it, free of charge! Now that's service! Honest, efficient, and straightforward. I will definitely always call Central Vacuum Experts, whether for service or if/when we need a new system."

"I thought Justin was wonderful. He came quickly, diagnosed the problem and fixed my machine the next day. He didnt charge me for the first service call. He put in a new motor thereby saving me money of buying a whole new central vacuum. I had to pay someone before him just to come and look but I decided I didnt think this first guy knew exactly what he was doing and his repair seemed too complicated. Through your service, I find Superior Vacuum and was very happy."

"C.M.W. provided expert installation of our central vacuum system. Their pricing and value were competitive. The technician, William, who installed our system informed us of all work prior to beginning and left all areas clean upon finishing. We are more than pleased with their service and recommend C.M.W. products and services."

"We had a very unique location in our basement and wanted a barn door. Since the location was not typical a significant amount of thought had to go into hanging and sealing the door gap. William came up with a plan and installed and painted the door. We also needed hardware installed on the door. The team did EXCELLENT work and I would hire them again. At times the team was not the easiest to connect with and they were late once. However, I am very satisfied with the work and the price was competitive."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.
