"M & R Cleaning Services is the BEST cleaning company in town. They regularly clean my home and do wonderful work. They are thorough, come on time with masks for COVID safety, and most importantly to me, they greatly respect my home and all items in it. Sometimes, they even do extra without being told. My house is neat, tidy, and completely disinfected when they are finished. They are also flexible with scheduling. Highest possible recommendation!"

"The work went well. Gary's price was significantly better than the other quote we received. He was responsive in phone communication and provided excellent advice about how best to finish the garage floor. They managed to complete the demo and foundation work and pour the new concrete all in one day; the work appeared of good quality, the crew was helpful and polite, and the final work matched our specifications well. They did an especially good job smoothing the concrete so it has a very flat and even surface. I would very happily hire them again."

Aquarium Services questions, answered by experts

A septic system's lifespan typically ranges from 15 to 40 years, with a common average of 20 to 30 years. The longevity heavily depends on the tank's material, maintenance diligence, and usage habits. With proper care, lifespans can reach the upper end of this range.

Lifespan by Tank Material:

  • Concrete: 20 to 40 years

  • Plastic or Fiberglass: 30 to 40 years

  • Steel: 15 to 20 years

To maximize your system's lifespan, follow these maintenance best practices:

  • Regular Pumping and Inspections: Have the tank pumped every three to five years and schedule professional inspections regularly.

  • Mindful Usage: Only flush human waste and toilet paper. Avoid putting items like cat litter, paper towels, cigarette butts, fats, grease, oils, or coffee grounds down your drains.

  • Avoid Chemicals: Do not pour harsh chemicals into the system.

  • Water Conservation: Reduce the amount of wastewater your system has to process.

  • Protect the Drain Field: Avoid driving or building heavy structures over the drain field area.

There are several homemade solutions for clearing a clogged sink that don’t involve pouring harsh chemicals down your drain. Start by pouring hot (but not boiling) water down the drain. This can help dissolve and flush away grease and gunk. A splash of dish soap down the drain can also cut through fat and make it easier to clear the drain. For a more stubborn blockage, grab a plunger and give it a few firm pumps to dislodge the clog.

Depending on the size and location of your septic tank repair job, you may want to let the septic pros finish before tackling other backyard work. However, in some cases, it’s not a bad idea to coordinate between your providers if the timing’s right and your septic repair pro says it’s safe to do so. For instance, if the septic repair work is happening in the fall, you might want to take advantage of the opportunity to prepare your backyard landscaping for winter , or in spring, start mulching the garden beds.

Unfortunately, no, you cannot shower while your septic tank is being pumped. The water needs to be shut off while your septic tank is serviced, which includes showers, toilets, sinks, and dishwashers. Take a shower well before pumping is scheduled to begin. Once the pumping is complete, you can resume regular water use.

There are a few signs that you might notice if your drain field is bad. For starters, if you see standing water or soggy grass above your drain field, it could mean that it isn’t working correctly. Or, if your yard smells like sewage, it could also indicate that there’s a problem with your drain field. Repairing a drain field costs an average of $2,000 to $15,000.
