"The job was planned in advance. The crew showed up early. The job was done in a single day and much quicker than I imagined. The roof looks amazing. The leaks are fixed. When minor accidental damage was done to my driveway by the crew the damage was promised to be fixed. GREAT customer service, especially when it came to the accidental damage. I will recommend Spicer Brothers and will use them again because of how they handled that issue and because of the great work they did with the roof."

"We had a great experience with the Lux Renovations and Owens Corning team. The whole process was very easy from designing the space, selecting colors, and having a contract manager who organized the entire basement remodel including all the trades and inspections. We were sold on the Owens Corning materials for the basement and that they were engineered specifically for a basement space. Would highly recommend this team for your basement remodel needs."

"Installer gave great feedback on tile design and grout color recommendation. He did a PHENOMENAL job cutting the tile to match up the design in the corner, where the walls were out of square. Terrific workmanship."

"The guys at D&R were great to work with, all the way from sending us (several) design options and estimates to figuring out creative ways to work around our existing structures and fit into various county setbacks on our property. We were always able to reach them by phone or email and get quick responses (usually within a few hours), even at night and on weekends. Everything was done exactly as promised. They even put our grill and doormats back out on the completed deck once everything was finished and completely cleaned up every last bit of material from the yard. Couldn't have asked for a better experience with this project"

Remodel Design questions, answered by experts

Universal design costs can be minimal when you add them during construction; however, adding universal design principles to existing homes can sometimes increase renovation costs. For example, a mid-grade bathroom remodel is estimated to cost around $30,000, while a standard universal design remodel can cost closer to $40,000. Adding accessible design components can include widening hallways ($500 to $2,000), curbless showers ($2,000 to $8,000), and widening doors ($400 to $800). Keep in mind that these increased costs can lead to higher resale values because universal homes may appeal to a wider variety of buyers.

Yes, designers collaborate with contractors and engineers to ensure a smooth construction process.

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.

Structural engineers draw structural plans, which include detailed drawings of the structural components of a home only. Complete house plans will require additional work from an architect or draftsperson, whose drawings will take the structural drawings into account. They’ll also include more details about the finishing materials and layout of a home, including everything from roofing and flooring materials to the position of furniture, light fixtures, switches, and plumbing fixtures.

Balancing aesthetics with functionality amidst space planning is important. To do so, you could consider consulting both an interior designer and an architect to fulfill both these needs. Or you can tackle it on your own by prioritizing personal touches amidst space planning that add to the look but don't take away from the livability of the space.
