"Stan, the owner, and his crew did an outstanding job on our wood back deck and front deck stair replacement. The quality of their work was excellent, and they completed everything quickly and professionally. They were friendly, respectful, and kept the work area clean. Additionally, the price was very fair considering the quality provided. I highly recommend Stan’s Home Improvement to anyone looking for reliable, skilled, and reasonably priced work!"

"Needed to have my deck stained. They provided a reasonable price. They cleaned and sanded deck. I?m glad they educated me on the oil stain. The oil stain, Ready Seal, looks great. The man who stained the deck did an outstanding job. He was very detailed in ensuring the stain was evenly spread. Great Job Leonpro!"

"Calix provided us with excellent and highly skilled carpentry services on multiple occasions. They’ve done several projects for us now, including replacing a bannister on our stairs (which included a new hand rail design), replacing a step on our indoor stairs as well as our gazebo outside, and designing and building a set of built-in shelves and cabinets. Carlos’s work is extremely high quality. He has excellent attention to detail and is very professional and timely. We happily and gladly recommend him for any carpentry services."

"John and his team are awesome! We had them come out to stain our fence and do some repairs to our deck and both turned out perfectly. They were also great to work with throughout the entire process - we will absolutely give them a call for any other work we need done and would highly recommend them!"

"We get a ton of “contractors” all through this development, but since Alex is a mature individual (unlike most of the guys that ring my doorbell), I listened to what he had to say. Alex pointed out the poor condition of my three attic vent louvers and gave me a fair price to replace them. He said he could do it that afternoon. I knew they were bad and, not being able to replace them myself, I told him to do it. Then we talked about washing and maybe repainting the vinyl siding. Our siding is original to the house which was built in 1986. We’ve have never cleaned it, and his price for washing was surprisingly low. I asked him to do that too. Our original red window shutters were now a faded pinkish red so I asked him to repaint those as well. He completed all that work over the next day and a half. The work quality, like his work ethic, is excellent. Now I’m considering hiring him for a few more things around the house. I recommend him highly."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is possible to build a small, basic deck for $5,000, particularly if you use less expensive materials and a simple design. To stay within this budget, consider a size under 10x12 feet and use affordable materials like pressure-treated wood or cedar. While the general cost for deck building ranges from $4,350 to $12,560, with an average around $8,200, some projects can be completed for as little as $4,350. You can also save on labor costs by doing the work yourself, but be aware that mistakes could end up costing more than hiring a professional. A contractor may have a higher upfront cost, but they can ensure a safe, stable deck that will last.

PVC decking can get slippery when wet because it’s made from plastic. However, composite and wood decking can also be slippery when wet. It’s best to wear shoes with grippy soles when walking on a wet deck, no matter the material, and to be extra cautious not to slip and fall down.

Pressure-treated wood contains preservatives that give the material internal protection from rot and pests. Untreated lumber won’t last more than a few years unless you choose a more expensive wood, like cedar, that naturally stands up well to moisture. Composite decking can outlast wood but is more expensive and doesn’t look as natural. Keep in mind that you’ll need to seal any exterior wood product to protect it from the elements and other forms of external damage.

Many composite decking manufacturers, including the popular Trex brand, offer warranties that protect against warping under specific conditions. These warranties typically last between 20 and 50 years, but they usually exclude claims related to improper installation of the product. Some manufacturer warranties only cover decks built by certified professionals.

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.
