"Very pleased with the roofing and siding work performed by ROI Construction. Jose was especially helpful and very knowledgeable in all areas of home repair, including roofing, skylights, trim and siding. Brooke did a great job scheduling and managing the project. "Replaced all old windows in colonial house with new double hung vinyl. Great working out details and a price with Pete and his team was very professional and efficient. I wanted a better quality window then he originally quoted and the difference in price was reasonable. Looking back, I probably should have stayed with his recommendation, which I'm sure would have sufficed; but I'm still happy with my decision. I would highly recommend Liberty Windows and Siding."

Siding questions, answered by experts

While insulated vinyl siding has one of the highest R-values out there, there are a few alternatives worth considering. When paired with a layer of insulation, manufactured stone veneer has an R-value of 4.5. Composite siding also provides good insulation with an R-value of 2 to 4.

Though vinyl siding is affordable, the material may not last as long or look as good as other siding materials. For example, wood siding has a beautiful, natural appearance but requires much more maintenance to keep your siding looking as good as new.

Fiber cement siding is another alternative that mimics the appearance of wood siding. Like vinyl siding, fiber cement is a low-maintenance material, but it does come at a higher price and is heavier and more difficult to install. Weigh the pros and cons of all siding materials before you decide on the best option for your home.

Generally speaking, the thicker the siding, the higher the quality. Thicker siding provides a stronger resistance against extreme weather conditions. Thicker siding also tends to fade more slowly under the sun. Hardie boards, a popular fiber cement siding option, is usually 5/16 inches thick. Meanwhile, masonry-finished cement siding varies from 5/8 to 5/8 inches thick.

New siding improves curb appeal, insulation, and protection from moisture and pests.

While vinyl is the less expensive option, composite siding has been known to be more durable than vinyl. In addition, because it is made from recycled materials, it is a more ecologically-friendly choice. Composite siding is also more luxurious looking and comes in a much wider range of styles and colors.
