"The estimate and scheduling was a breeze with Todd. The crew arrived on time to install 8 recessed lights, in 2 rooms, as well as wire 3 ceiling fans in the bedrooms that did not have overhead lighting. They completed the job quickly and efficiently. There was no mess left (they put down plastic and vacuumed up anything that made it onto the floor) and they covered all holes they had to make. I will definitely use them for future electrical needs."

"Working with Mark Romero at Monocacy Electrical and Lighting Services was fantastic! From the time he arrived to provide a quote, I could tell that he had the experience and expertise to do the job well. With 30 years of experience as an electrician, Mark has seen it all. Nothing was too difficult for him, and he takes great pride in not cutting corners. Mark is easy to talk to, and he is totally focused on making the customer happy. He even took the time to move and replant one of my flower plants that was in the area where he was digging. It says a lot about a person when they treat your home as if it was their own. Mark is a very happy electrician; he absolutely enjoys his work. I was impressed that he made sure we had the product registration cards for our lights. He thought of everything, and we will definitely call him for all of our future electrical needs. A+++++"

"Instead of just lighting the driveway he designed the lighting plan, picking particular trees to light to illuminate an aesthetic path up to the house.  The result is wonderful!  The lights on the walkway to the and deck are carefully positioned and the entire effect is wonderful.  I plan to have him back to do lights in the backyard as well.

"Very responsive, a professional and very pleasant mechanic, excellent work, a bit exspensive, over $500.00 for 5plugs. The problem is they failed to fix the plug that was dead and failed to investigate or repair the flickering lights. I still have no idea if there is a fire hazard due to an electrical short. They did not appear to have any interest in dealing with the issue. Bottom line: I now have to hire another electrician. I originally chose Palmer because they are local, were very responsive to my inquiry and had an excellent rep per Angie's List. It is unclear to me why they were unwilling to complete the job. In any event, they failed me. I will identify and retain another electrician, just not through Angie's List . They failed me as well."

"I gave an A rating, despite some bumps on the scheduling. The A rating was earned by Danny and the work he did to get the various new light fixtures installed, both inside and outside. We have more fixtures to be installed, and we will have Danny back to finish the job."

"If you are even considering hiring a contractor to remodel part or all of your kitchen, you owe it to yourself to contact American Kitchen Concepts and give them a chance to bid on the job. We did, mostly because of a personal recommendation (they remodeled a friend's kitchen several years earlier), and doing so led to not only an outstanding customer service experience, but also a fabulous outcome that was more than we'd hoped it would be. Here are some of the highlights of our experience and the benefits that awarding the contract to American Kitchen Concepts provided. DESIGN: Do you know exactly what you want for your kitchen? We thought that we did, but of course, we're not professionals who have been doing this for many years. We shared our thoughts with the owner, Dan Millard, in terms of materials, styles, etc., but he offered suggestions on the design that would have never occurred to us otherwise. We accepted some and passed on others, but the end result was a design that improved our existing space in many ways. MATERIALS: American Kitchen Concepts offers a variety of materials (floors, cabinets, back splash, counter tops, lighting/plumbing fixtures, etc.), and they are happy to use a different material of your choosing, if you prefer. We found the design and color cabinets there that we wanted, but could not find comparably elsewhere. That said, they used the flooring we wanted from a different source, allowed us to select our own lighting fixtures, and used a counter top that we found elsewhere that was available through one of their many suppliers. In short, we got exactly what we wanted without feeling that we compromised. WORKMANSHIP: The crew that performed the work was everything you could ask of such a team. They were courteous, professional, respectful of our property, clean (work site cleaned every day), and most importantly, skilled craftsmen. When dealing with true professionals and skilled craftsmen, you get spoiled. They thought of details and anticipated needs before they occurred to us. Consequently, we quickly developed a high level of trust that, no matter what questions or concerns we had, they would be addressed to our satisfaction and beyond. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I can honestly say that Dan and his crew made the entire experience easy and drama-free. They ensured that our concerns were addressed and that we were completely satisfied with the work they performed in our home. I have no reservations whatsoever in recommending American Kitchen Concepts to any and all who are planning or even considering kitchen remodeling work. We are very grateful that we did."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Yes! As a matter of fact, there are many sensors that add motion to existing outdoor lights. These motion sensors attach to pre-existing flood lights and other outdoor lights without any fussy and potentially dangerous electrical work. Additionally, some flood lights and related fixtures ship with motion sensors built-in.

Between seasons, inspect cords for damage, replace burnt-out bulbs, and clean lighting fixtures to prevent dirt buildup. Proper storage in cool, dry conditions will extend the lights' lifespan and minimize repairs or replacements when redeployed.

The five common types of landscape lighting are up-lighting, down-lighting, spotlights, built-in lighting, and pathway lighting.

  • Up-lighting casts light upwards from the ground, mostly for aesthetic purposes.

  • Down-lighting directs light onto the ground, lighting pathways, or outdoor space.

  • Spotlights cast direct, focused lighting in any direction.

  • Built-in lighting integrates lighting into an outdoor feature.

  • Pathway lighting illuminates walkways, increasing safety.

The cost of lamp repair generally ranges from $30 to $150, with an average cost of around $75. Common repairs like rewiring or replacing a switch typically cost around $60 and $80, respectively. The final price depends on factors such as the type of lamp, the complexity of the issue, and the parts required. Keep in mind that repair costs may be higher for ornate or antique lamps. It's a good practice to ask for a price quote from a professional lamp repair service to determine if the investment is worthwhile.

The cost to repair a short circuit depends on the type of repair. A faulty outlet or simple loose wire can be a simple fix that might only cost a handful of dollars. For example, if you need to rewire a house, you’ll spend around $2 to $4 per square foot, but replacing an entire electrical panel costs anywhere from $500 to $2,100.
