"He just fixed it!! A very nice man. Came, looked at central vacuum determined the problem and fixed it. No sales pitch no telling me how old the machine was and that it would soon need to be replaced. He also checked all filters and said was. Good"

"I thought Justin was wonderful. He came quickly, diagnosed the problem and fixed my machine the next day. He didnt charge me for the first service call. He put in a new motor thereby saving me money of buying a whole new central vacuum. I had to pay someone before him just to come and look but I decided I didnt think this first guy knew exactly what he was doing and his repair seemed too complicated. Through your service, I find Superior Vacuum and was very happy."

"This was a very professional crew. They met every term that they outlined, and during installation on a remarkably rainy day, they took great care to put down drop cloths and keep the place clean. They also took extra care to make sure that the water heater was installed properly on a slightly sloped floor, and that they restored all the elfa shelving within a very tight space. Would definitely recommend them."

"Used Mr. Mirgazy for a lot of work when finishing up our old home that we sold, and our new home after we bought it. He painted all of the rooms on our old home to prepare it for sale, and then in our new home he did framing, drywall, and painting for half of our basement that wasn't finished, he installed a new shower from scratch, including venting and tying into the drainline under the concrete slab, finished up the tile work in our kitchen, and did all the rough in work for an entirely new full bath. His work is always top notch, he is very thorough, and he is reasonably priced. I've had him come back multiple time for some other jobs over the last few years and I am always happy with the quality of his work."

"C.M.W. provided expert installation of our central vacuum system. Their pricing and value were competitive. The technician, William, who installed our system informed us of all work prior to beginning and left all areas clean upon finishing. We are more than pleased with their service and recommend C.M.W. products and services."

Central Vacuum Cleaners questions, answered by experts

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.
