"This probably the most professional service organization I've worked with in any capacity. They did a comprehensive audit and we discussed issues that could be remediated prioritized by the biggest bang for the buck and then they did the fixes we agreed upon. I always felt like I was dealing with an expert who had my best interests at heart - work that they could have done that they advised could be deferred. Ended up increasing the insulation in the attic which I'd known for years was a problem and sealing the ducts which has made a noticeable difference. I'd happily recommend Atlas to anyone who thinks they might benefit from a home energy audit and efficiency upgrades."

"They showed up on time, looked over the project, and decided they couldn't safely replace the fan since it required outside access on a steep roof. This was the correct decision. They didn't charge me for travel time. I would hire them again."

"Actual workers were fantastic. Office personnel were terrible.Moments before scheduled arrival, I was Texted that they wouldn't make it. When I called I got some BS story and was told they would be out the next day. When they arrived, only one person knew what he was doing ad was waiting on another to remove vinyl siding. Once the ceiling was done, the crew was ready to leave. Called the company, was sent to voicemail. When I called back I was told I would be speaking to the owner, after more time on hold I was then told I would be speaking to a manager. They finally did get the right people out, but then had issues with their truck etc. What a hassle. Took almost all day to finish insulating a small garage and garage ceiling. Again, all actual workers were hard working, pleasant people."

"Truly cared about the quality of his work, wanted to be proud of his final product and went out of his way to meet the customers needs. We had a different contractor install a pantry in our kitchen who did a horrible job and Kevin from JK Construction came to fix the issue with the door and did cosmetic additions to make the cabinet look good in our kitchen. Saved the day for a very reasonable price. We greatly appreciated his work and will hire again!"

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Common warning signs of an overloaded electrical panel or meter box include frequent circuit breaker tripping, flickering or dimming lights, scorch or burn marks, and a burning scent coming from the panel. A circuit breaker trips as a protective measure to prevent overheating and potential fires. If you observe any of these signs, turn off the affected circuit breaker and move some devices to a different circuit. If the problem persists after turning the breaker back on, you should contact a professional electrician to resolve the issue.

There are energy-efficient options when building a cottage. Select green building materials, high-performance insulation, and energy-efficient windows when designing your cottage. Options such as solar panels, efficient HVAC systems, and LED lighting can lower your utility bills and reduce your environmental impact. Many builders offer energy-efficient upgrades as part of the design process.

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.

Blower door tests are measured in a few different ways, but the most popular are air changes per hour (ACH) and cubic feet of air (CFM) moving through the house per hour. A good ACH score is less than 2ACH, but 1ACH is better. This means the house experiences a total air change within 60 minutes (for 1ACH). For 2ACH, there’s a complete change every 30 minutes, and so on. CFM scores are similar in that a lower score means less air change, and therefore less leakage.

After you receive your audit and report, review the findings and determine which of the prescribed changes you want to make to improve your home’s energy efficiency. Start by contacting the type of professionals recommended by the auditor who can help you remedy the issues discovered during the audit. Prioritize the projects by urgency, importance, and budget. Then, gather estimates from several professionals, remembering to verify any necessary licensing and experience information.
