"The crew were great- very efficient and also very nice and polite. They removed asbestos from pipes where it was possible to do so and sealed the ends where they could not remove all the asbestos. The work and cleanup afterward were thorough."

"I had a possible asbestos concern after pulling up my carpet and finding the black tile adhesive you would find underneath the AVT (house built in 1960, since flipped) We were attempting to replace our carpet, but the company wanted a negative test before they completed the work. Mr. Rudd had no problem coming out same day and collecting samples on multiple parts of the basement. He communicated how long it would take and sure enough, got the results back today. He was very thorough and knowledgeable on the subject and gave recommendations in the event of a positive result. Got the results back and can now give the green light to the carpet company all thanks to Mr. Rudd's work! Great job. Would hire again in the future, and he emphasized any questions or concerns to call him anytime. Great work and great customer service. Thank you!"

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

In the event of suspected or confirmed asbestos contamination on the body, it is imperative to take immediate measures to reduce health risks. To avoid further exposure, carefully remove contaminated clothing and shower thoroughly to remove any asbestos fibers. Seek prompt medical attention, and inform your healthcare professional about your suspected asbestos exposure. Since asbestos-related health issues can take years to surface, regular medical check-ups are advised for anyone with a history of exposure.

To seal off, or encapsulate, asbestos-containing materials in your home, you’ll need to utilize a sealant specifically designed for asbestos encapsulation. These sealants bind with asbestos fibers to keep them from spreading throughout the air and causing bodily harm. In many cases, these sealants can be simply painted on, but you’ll need to wear a protective body suit as well as an asbestos-rated respirator to interact with these materials safely.

Asbestos-containing materials are not easily affected by water and do not disintegrate or dissolve when exposed to it. However, porous materials can deteriorate due to water exposure, leading to the release of asbestos fibers into the air. The settling of asbestos fibers can also occur as water makes them heavy, which reduces the risk of airborne exposure, though future disturbance of the materials could cause risk. Wetting asbestos-containing materials does not constitute safe removal, and the proper handling and disposal of asbestos materials should be left to professionals.

The legality of covering asbestos tile with new flooring can vary by location. In some cities, it is not legal to cover asbestos tile due to the risk of causing fibers to become airborne. While a professional method called encapsulation can seal the asbestos in place, it is not always an appropriate solution. In other areas, covering the tile is a legal and reasonable option to prevent fibers from spreading and reduce health hazards. However, the best long-term solution is to have the asbestos professionally and completely removed from your home.

Most manufacturers stopped putting asbestos in linoleum before 1980 due to public concerns about its toxicity. However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) didn’t ban asbestos-containing products until 1989, and a comprehensive ban was not announced until 2024. This means that homes built after 1989 may still have asbestos in their flooring.
