"Great job. Arrived as scheduled and was very professional. He even squeezed in some work on a carpet while he was here to clean upholstery. This is the second time we have used Hew and we would use him again."

"Top Notch Carpets were quick to respond to my phone call. I told him that I needed to have some carpeting re-stretched on an upstairs landing and a master bedroom, He was able to do the work within a week of when I called. He arrived on time with an associate. They got to work right away. They did the landing first. Then they went into the master bedroom. All furniture was moved to be sure that they got a good stretch. Then they told me that the 2nd bedroom needed to be restretched a little so as to have a smooth transition to the landing. That was accomplished as well. They were very professional and polite. The job was well done."

"Joel s service was great! He stretched and cleaned carpeting in preparation for a condo sale and it looks terrific! He gave us a very knowledgeable and honest assessment of replacing vs. stretching/cleaning for the sale. Very reasonable pricing and just an all-round good experience."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

How long carpet dye lasts depends on the quality of the dye and the application process. At a minimum, dyed carpets keep their color for a year, but some can last longer. Many factors affect how long carpet dye lasts, including the amount of UV rays that hit the carpet, causing it to fade. However, the good news is you can have your carpet dyed annually to keep up the color.

Yes, you can revive carpet that’s flattened using household items like an ice cube and stiff brush, a damp cloth and an iron, baking soda and vinegar, and shaving cream. If you want to go all-out, visit a local home improvement store and buy a carpet rake, too. Depending on the state of your carpet, you may need to use more than one of these methods to see results. Keep in mind that you might need to repeat a reviving method more than once.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.

Deciding whether to clean or replace your carpet depends on its condition and age. If cleaning no longer resolves issues, it's time to consider a replacement. Key signs that you need to replace your carpet include:

  • Stains that are impossible to remove.

  • A persistent smell that lingers even after cleaning.

  • An increase in allergy symptoms.

  • The age of the carpet. Most manufacturers state that carpets should last about 10 years with proper care.

When cleaning is no longer effective, you should replace the carpet with a new one or consider other flooring options like vinyl or laminate.

The best way to fix carpet matting is to start by vacuuming thoroughly in multiple directions to lift the flattened fibers. For more stubborn spots, apply moisture with an ice cube or steam, then fluff the carpet using a spoon, comb, or carpet brush. A blow dryer or warm iron over a damp towel can also help restore the carpet’s texture. For deep or widespread matting, a professional cleaning is your best bet to fluff your carpet back up to its former glory.
