"Vince was very professional throughout the whole job. He and Jamie came on time, calling me when they were on the way. Originally we just wanted gutter cleaning. But there was a lot of junk up there left over from previous workers (empty buckets, cans, etc.), they also took all that stuff down for us. Not only did they clean up every speck of leaves/etc. that they blew onto our own back patio, they took care to try to avoid blowing debris into our neighbor's adjoining properties. Vince also requested that I look around at the end of the job to make sure everything was to my satisfaction. He gave me a $26 Angie's List discount."

"I had a pipe burst in the basement of our rental property, Flood Crew was referred by our realtor. They arrived quickly after the pipe was fixed by our plumber, demoed, and dried out the areas, even handled packing out our furniture and placing carefully in a pod storage while the work was being done. They did mold testing and made sure everything was safe, the best part was that they dealt with the insurance and we didn’t have to do anything."

"The salesperson who provided the estimate gave the best explanation of the problem in the basement and how it would be corrected.  He was clear and concise and had a video of one of their own crews doing the same type of work they would do in our basement.  We had four estimates and this gentleman did not waste my time criticizing and "bad mouthing" their competition.  He did not ask who else we were talking too.  He just detailed what they would do for us.  They got a rather big job done in two days although the second day went well into the evening.  Because they were coming from PA they brought a big crew on day 2 so they  would not have to come back.  My husbands one complaint was that the area outside the bilco steps where they mixed the cement was left in poor condition with cement dust and mud.  Please note that we moved and stacked the things stored in the basement prior to their arrival.  I believe that this saved us a few dollars.  Before they left they gave us our warranty, detailed instructions about when things could be put back in place, what to expect.  We are thrilled with the result.  Two and a half months later and halfway through a typical Annapolis summer the basement does not smell and their is no mildew.  And we have discovered that we really needed that second sump pump!"

"The last was a rental company that we have and we used them for an air conditioning and heating system. It was Bototach Mechanical. It’s been a good program for us. They’re very responsive. I don’t know what the thought process was. My husband said, well let’s try these guys and so we did. We have an older home and it’s proved to be a very good deal. The quality has been pretty good, so I would give them an A for the quality. I will give you one helpful hint though. If the company decides they want to replace an appliance, you need to call them and negotiate with them because you can upgrade, but you need to talk to them in person not just do it over the internet."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Under the right circumstances, removing your popcorn ceiling can have a favorable ROI exceeding 80%. The ROI depends on several factors, such as the size of your ceiling, where the texture is located in your home, the state of the housing market, and whether the ceiling contains asbestos.

Most handy homeowners can tackle removing texture from unpainted walls. Removing texture from painted walls is a bit trickier. Paint acts as a sealant, so you can’t soften the texture with water. Instead, you’ll have to add a layer of drywall compound known as a skim coat. This process is messy and takes some practice.

Popcorn ceilings can be relatively easy to keep clean with regular maintenance. Avoid exposing it to smoke if possible—popcorn ceilings tend to collect stains from smoke, including those from cigarettes or cooking. With proper care, you can clean your popcorn ceiling anywhere from every six months to a year—or as needed.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”
