"I am so thrilled not only for finally refacing my cabinets but for the quality of work the Alex and his assistant provided. Seamless, professional work. They cleaned up after themselves and finished the work in a couple of days. I waited 7 years to reface my kitchen/bathroom cabinets only because they were brand new when we moved into the house but NOT my style. Now it's light, cream colored, beautiful design and makes me smile. I recommend Alex and his colleague, the offsite Manager (forgot his name-he always answered the phone when I called) and the company wholeheartedly. There was a little hiccup with scheduling where they didn't show up on the original date but they remedied it satisfactorily. Very satisfied."

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing questions, answered by experts

Refacing cabinets is more cost-effective than total replacement and offers a refreshed look by simply replacing doors and hardware, and applying new surface veneers while retaining existing cabinet boxes.

Yes, refacing old kitchen cabinets is doable as long as the cabinet boxes are still structurally sound. Refacing works best when the framework is in good condition, allowing you to update the doors, drawer fronts, and exterior surfaces without a full replacement.

Whether to reface or paint comes down to personal preference. Refacing strikes a convenient balance between being more affordable than replacing cabinets and longer-lasting than painting them. Furthermore, it allows homeowners to completely change the aesthetic of their cabinets and still paint them if they choose to. If money was no object, refacing is the better option. However, it’s more expensive and time-consuming than painting. Painting remains an effective way to revamp your cabinets, both in look and longevity, without spending a ton of money.

Common cabinet repair issues include loose or broken hinges, broken or warped doors, misaligned drawers, water damage, and scratches. Regular maintenance can help prevent some of these significant issues.

If you're looking for ways to save money on custom cabinets, there are a few ways to cut costs without sacrificing beauty. For starters, comparing door styles to choose the most cost-effective option is a great way to save money on the overall project.

In addition, choosing a common wood species versus an exotic one will lower the price. Woods like oak and hickory are often more affordable wood choices, and the same goes for knobs, pulls, and other finishes where picking a commonly available style can reduce costs.
