"Joe was with me the entire process - insurance thru completion. Joe first went with me to meet with the insurance claims adjuster. He jumped right in with the demo crew to demo the affected areas and determine the extent of the damage. Joe re-insulated and hung new drywall, he re-did the bathroom and four other rooms. It was a huge job and things kept getting added by me - like let's repaint. the porch, the kitchen, the ceilings in the dining room...you get the idea! Each time I wanted something else, Joe's response was always the same, "No problem." The work is excellent. It has been long and full of surprises due to really old construction. But it is done and beautiful. If there is a particular aspect of the job that joe wasn't licensed in, he called in a certified contractor. For example, the plumbing was done by a plumber. I'm pleased and already hired him for a few other things back at my house. Great personality, great work and great ideas to make every project work best.

No, not all popcorn ceilings have asbestos, but a vast majority do. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned its use in 1973, although it still may have been used up through the early ‘90s. It is often less expensive to cover a popcorn ceiling instead of removing it. Installing drywall costs $1.50 to $3 per square foot, whereas popcorn ceiling removal averages $7 per square foot. Another option may be installing beadboard panels over top, giving your ceiling a fresh and modern look.

It depends on the type of texture you’re adding but yes, you can often use a roller to texturize a ceiling. The roller needs to be able to hold enough medium to create some relief on the ceiling but not so much that gravity will pull it off before it dries. Using a roller with a nap between ½” and ¾” will allow the roller to hold enough material to do the trick.

Textured walls are a great way to hide imperfections left over by drywall installation, but many homeowners feel like it’s an outdated look, despite there being so many types of drywall texture. And while the textured walls of today are a far cry from the popcorn ceilings and faux stucco of our grandmother’s homes, if you want a more modern look or you want to install wallpaper, it’s time to smooth out your walls.
