"I first contacted Goode Design because of their great reviews on Angie's List.  I contacted them through their website and, when I didn't hear anything back from them over a period of about 4 weeks, I persisted and called and left a message before seeking other estimates.  Denny called me back and seemed extremely nice.  I explained that I needed some wallpaper removed from my bathroom, and any repair work done to the walls.  It's not a large bathroom, and only about half the room was papered.  He told me that he didn't want me to think he was lazy, lol, but it would save us time if I could just email him pictures of the room.  I wasn't exactly comfortable with that, but did so anyway.  I was quoted $900, but that quote included painting the room also, (but not including the price of paint.)  I emailed him back and explained that I only needed the paper removed, I didn't need the walls painted at that time, as we were doing some extensive work in there. I never got a reply to my last email.   My husband and I are attempting to do get quite a few things done in a relatively short amount of time, and we really need some extra help.  I wish we could afford to hire contractors to do everything that needs to be done, but we can't.  I was also supposed to email him pictures of our paneled basement that we wanted primed and painted.  I didn't, because I never got a reply to my last email.  And, if his price was $900 to remove some wallpaper, I don't think we could have afforded to have the basement job done.  I got the wallpaper removed by myself in less than a day, so I guess I saved myself $900.  All in all, he seemed like a nice guy, and his reviews are stellar.  I would have loved to do business with him. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford his services.

"Mr. Lazo arrived to give me an estimate on the date and time we agreed to. He walked through and observed the house and wrote an estimate on the spot that was for an amount that was exactly what I had estimated the work would cost.
On the morning they were to start work, a large crew arrived on time and began removing the wallpaper. They removed the wallpaper from the entire house in one day! It would have taken us weeks if not months, to complete the job ourselves.
The crew then began the painting process. They put two base coats followed by two coats of paint on all the walls. I could not find any mistakes when they were finished. They cleaned up thoroughly when they were done. I can not say how pleased I am with the professional job they did. I am thoroughly satisfied. Mr. Lazo called me regularly to discuss things I would definitely use this company again.

"Met with Mike, the owner, on 10/12/2013 to provide an estimate.  He said he could complete the project in 5 days using 4 people.  We agreed he would start on Monday, 11/4/2013, and be completed on Friday, 11/8/2013.  Completing on 11/8/2013 was important because I was scheduling the carpet cleaner to come in right behind him.  My goal was to list the property on 11/9 or 11/10.  I provided Mike a key to house so he'd have access as needed to complete the work as the house was vacant.
Mike began working on 11/4/2013.  On 11/6/2013 he called and informed me that he would try to be completed on Friday, but thought that was highly unlikely.  He apologized and explained he had a bad knee and an issue with the master bath ceiling that was slowing the work down.  I expressed the importance of him completing the work on Friday due to the scheduling of the carpet cleaner.   He said he'd try.  I asked for a new completion date; he indicated he would be completed no later than Tuesday, 11/12.  I said this was unacceptable and asked if he could work over the weekend.  He agreed to work the weekend and be completed by Sunday.
I contacted Mike on Friday, 11/8/13 (the original completion date) to get an update on his progress.  He told he needed until Monday, 11/11/13 to finish.  I expressed my displeasure, but what could I do?  I could not move forward until the painting was complete.  On Monday, I met Mike at the property.  Overall, he and his wife did a good job painting.  He expressed that some of wallpaper removal took longer because of two layers of wallpaper in some cases.  He also forgot to paint a decorative feature above the ceiling fan; he asked if I wanted it painted and I said yes.
I was not at the house every day.  My gut says that two maybe three people worked on this project, which is why it was not completed timely.  Mike writes he's been in this business for 30 years.  As a painting professional, he should be able to accurately estimate the time it takes to finish a project especially after taking the time to go through each room (and given his ongoing knee issue).  I chose Mike's company because of the positive reviews on Angie's List so his inability to keep within the time frame was very disappointing.  I liked the work his company did, but would most likely not use again given this experience.

Small jobs welcome

"Darrren and Randy are the BEST!! They were prompt-clean and a pleasure to deal with. I came home at the end of the 2nd day--all the wallpaper was removed. The walls painted and they put all of the furniture back into place. The house was spotless and the only sign that anyone had been there was the smell of fresh paint."

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can apply peel-and-stick wallpaper over wood paneling, but it requires significant preparation for a good result. Peel-and-stick wallpaper has a weaker adhesive than traditional wallpaper and works best on smooth, non-textured surfaces like painted or primed drywall. Because wood paneling is often textured with grooves, any flaws in the underlying surface will likely be visible after application. To prepare the paneling, you must ensure the surface is free of cracks, holes, and protrusions by filling any indentations and sanding rough spots to create a smooth surface. An alternative is to remove the paneling and apply the wallpaper directly to the underlying drywall or plaster, provided it is in good condition.

Yes, peel-and-stick wallpaper is available that’s made from vinyl—it actually is the most common material used in peel-and-stick wallpaper. Learning how to install vinyl wallpaper is far easier when you’re using a peel-and-stick design than with adhesive. You could also select peel-and-stick wallpaper that consists of paper, polyester, or natural fibers.

While textured walls can elevate a space in many ways, there are a couple of downsides to consider. Namely, they’re hard to clean, and some textures fall out of fashion quickly. Make sure to consider all your options to find one you truly love before diving in.

If you can already see the texture of the existing wallpaper through the layer of paint, then the texture could also come through the new layer of wallpaper. If that’s the aesthetic you want, then proceed. But if you want a smoother surface, you should either strip off the existing paint and wallpaper or hang a layer of liner paper before proceeding.

While some people are confident in their ability to replace concrete by drilling out the broken pieces and replacing them with bagged concrete, it’s possible to run into snags that make hiring a professional worth it. Trying to level concrete slabs can require special equipment, which can be pricey to rent and tough to operate. It's also crucial to contact your town's municipal office to ensure you are allowed to take on the project without a permit.
