"He did a good job and the pipe does not leak anymore. They did it for a fair price. My only recommendation is they need to organize there truck better. The guy took a long time trying to find the correct part to replace the copper pipe."

"Absolutely great experience. They competently and professionally handled my solar panel project through all phases: initial sales call, system design, coordination of permitting, installation, connecting with the utility. I was well informed throughout the process. They answered all my questions during the design phase and ran multiple scenarios so I could really feel confident with the final decision. There was no high pressure sales tactics, just straightforward discussion about all my questions. Installation crew was very professional and got the entire thing done in a single day. Communication throughout the project was excellent. Everything was done as promised in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Lumina to anyone considering going solar."

"I needed to replace a damaged section of roof that had 13 solar panels on it. I tried every installer in CT to get the panels removed and even tried the parent company, Omnidian. They all wanted to install new panels for me, but no one wanted to remove and reinstall existing solar panels. NYSM was willing to do the job even though I was outside their normal service area. They took all the panels off and stored them at the house and then reinstalled them after the roof work was complete. My wife remarked several times how nice, polite and hard working the crew was, especially Tito! He worked by himself on a Saturday to get everything installed and working before a snowstorm hit. I can't say enough good things about this company. Excellent in every aspect! 10 stars!!!"

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

Insurance companies aren’t against solar panels, but they may have concerns about the risks and costs of insuring solar. The type of policy, where you live, and the insurance company itself matter. Extreme weather can damage solar panels, and faulty installation or electrical malfunctions pose a fire risk—this, in turn, can increase insurance company liability and payouts. However, you’re likely to keep coverage as long as you have a pro install the solar system, keep it maintained, can pass a solar panel inspection, and update your homeowners policy to include solar.

Yes, going solar really saves money. In fact, according to some calculations, the average homeowner who switches from electric to solar power will save almost $2,000 a year on energy costs. While buying solar panels and switching to solar can be costly up front, the savings add up over time. If you can sell back extra energy or take advantage of tax incentives, your savings can be even higher.

In most cases, yes, solar panels are well worth the investment. Going solar with your home’s energy is expensive, but, in most states, the panels will pay for themselves by reducing your electric bills. Solar panels don’t produce greenhouse gasses or other pollutants, meaning you can feel good about using this renewable energy source to power your home. Plus, installing solar panels can boost your home value, helping your profit off your next home sale.

  • Installing a new electrical meter box

  • Replacing your meter base

  • Replacing your service entrance cable

The cost to install or upgrade an electrical meter box ranges from $100 to $650, including $50 to $250 for the unit. The meter base passes the power from your electric company to your panel. The cost to replace a meter base is roughly $50 to $250.

Service entrance cables are electrical cables with multiple wires, bringing power from electrical companies to residential buildings. The cost to replace a service entrance cable ranges roughly from $1,000 to $1,500.

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.
