"First class all the way! Professional, highly competent and fair. Will recommend John to anyone I know. I had a well leak and a prior firm came out and gave me an outrageous quote for a solution that would not have addressed the problem. I reached out to Conex to do excavation to better assess the problem and not only did he get out quickly to do the excavation he was also able to diagnose and fix the issue at a lower cost."

"The owner showed up on time for the estimate. As he looked over the property he made recommendations as to what he thought needed work and described the extent of the restorations he would perform. He seemed very knowledgeable and answered questions. He then went back to his truck and returned in a short while with an estimate. I thought the estimate was reasonable considering that he estimated 3 days of work with 2 men. He was available immediately (perhaps this was not a good sign). The work was performed while I was at my job - not a good idea. The first day: I came home to find that front steps had been prepped for re-pointing and half of the walkway was excavated. The workers did not cover the area so we had to go out in a rain storm and tarp the area so it would not erode. No work the next day due to weather. On the 2nd and final day of work, I returned home and it appeared that the work was done. As I looked over the job, I was not at all satisfied with the quality of the work on the back walkway. They had decided to only replace 5 feet instead of 10 (which alone was not a problem but I paid for 10 feet; I assumed there would be a reasonable price adjustment - wrong again...). I immediately called the owner to find out if he had even seen the job - he had not! I asked him to come over to see the work. The walk does not really look right. They did not re-set the stones as they were and, in fact, actually took a stone from a side patio which left a big hole in the side patio. We found one of the original stones from the walkway - which should have been re-used - thrown over in the wooded area of the backyard. The width of the walk does not match the rest and the layout of the stones is very amateurish. Mr. DiFatta tried to tell me that the job was great and that his "best" crew had done the work. I asked for a price reduction due to the fact that not all the work was done that he said he would do and because the work was not well done. After much discussion he did agree to a very small price reduction. I do appreciate the information he provided regarding masonry preservation but I would not use this company again."

"As a new homeowner, I have had so many contractors try to get the best of me when they see I still have a lot to learn.  I met with 4 or 5 other plumbers before John Harris, and it felt like a fresh breeze had come through.
Super friendly when I first called in the morning, he offered to meet with at my house to take a look around that very same day in the evening.  He even did some research of his own volition, calling the city to find out where the city sewer line measurements were in my back alley since I told him I had a main sewer line issue.  He came prepared and happy to explain exactly what he would do to replace the sewer line, which was something I really appreciated.
Anytime I contacted John, he responded literally within a couple of minutes.  He came by in person to sign a contract for the job, which he wrote up in detail to the terms we had discussed.  On top of all that, he moved up the date of the job sooner when I told him the sewage back-up had gotten worse unexpectedly.  On the day of the job John and his company showed up on time and completely prepared for work.  They somehow broke up my concrete sidewalk, excavated the old cast iron sewer pipe and laid new PVC pipe across my entire backyard in just 6 hours (I thought it would take all day)!  They cleaned up after the new pipe was buried, and they were as careful as possible while moving around large pieces of concrete.  They made sure to show me how the water was flowing through, and I felt so relieved and confident the sewage would now be leaving my house without any issues.
BOTTOMLINE: John Harris is a rare find in a sea of tradesmen who either don't know or care about what they are doing.  He takes pride in doing good work.  He is intelligent and caring, and won't rip you off.  Calling him for any plumbing job will be something you wish you had done sooner!

"From start to finish, Mr Heil and his team provided cost-effective, timely and exceptional service. Every aspect of the our project scope of work was attended to, with care and diligence, including contracting, permitting, excavation, interior plumbing, and landscaping. Clean up of the worksite was done very day w/in the house and in the front yard. Our family was very appreciative of the quick timeline as we were in process of transitioning between homes. I would highly recommend Heil plumbing, for small and large plumbing projects.

Excavating questions, answered by experts

You can bury underground electrical wire six inches deep—but only if you use a rigid metal electrical conduit. For rigid, non-metallic conduits, bury the wire at least 12 inches deep. If using an underground feeder cable rated for direct burial, you'll need to place it at least 18 inches deep, as it has no conduit for extra protection.

Underground downspouts refer to the sections of downspout extensions that lead away from your home and gutter system. While they cost more than traditional extensions, they can provide several benefits, such as less frequent damage and no need to move them for lawn care tasks. Whether they're worth it or not depends on your budget at installation time and how much convenience they'll add to your situation.

Digging a bush up by the roots is the most natural DIY method for removing a bush stump. Start by identifying the shrub type and revealing its roots. Cut the shrub to its base and loosen the soil, ensuring no utility lines are nearby. Optionally, treat the base with herbicide, then dig around the roots and cut a circle around the shrub using various tools. Dig a trench, cut the base of the root ball, and finally fill the hole to prevent regrowth. This thorough process ensures complete removal without damaging surrounding areas.

The cost to drill a well varies, with a national average of around $5,500 for a 150-foot well. However, prices can fluctuate significantly based on several factors, including your location, the required well depth, geological conditions, local regulations, and the specific drilling methods used. For the most accurate cost assessment, it is best to research and get quotes from local well-drilling professionals in your area.

The cost to repair a crawl space runs between $1,500 and $15,000, depending on the extent of the damage. Major flooding or water repairs can cost up to $10,000 for removal and repairs. If you simply need to clean your crawl space, expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000 for a major cleanout. Replacing a crawl space beam due to rot or damage can cost between $1,500 and $5,000, while removing and replacing damaged insulation costs between $1,000 and $4,000.
