"This huge pine tree was in relatively poor shape and needed to be removed, it was a hazard to the houses in the vicinity. After another company had said they would do it, but backed out at the last minute (said their crane was not large enough), I called Marquis. These guys seem like real professionals. I couldn't believe how quickly they set everything up, and then took down the tree, piece by piece. They have all the right equipment, and tons of experience with trees like ours, it was clear. Communications via email and phone were always quick, with quotes, invoices and payments handled conveniently online. Would definitely contact them again if we have any tree service requirements."

"C&J Tree service did an excellent job clearing some trees that were diseased on my property. They were on time, courteous and efficiently removed the trees and stumps, leaving the area ready for some fresh landscaping in the spring time (which I've already hired them to do). I highly recommend their services and plan to use them again for another project later this year to have arborvitae trees planted around the property line."

"Bernard and his crew ere simply great. Very quick and responsive and very reasonably priced for the scope of the project. Bernard listened and understood exactly what was needed: removing 3 trees whose branches were overhanging utility lines. He got the job done the same day. I highly recommend B&R tree service. By the way, his office manager/ scheduler is so polite and professional which was simply amazing!"

"Shaun McDonough stopped within a day of my phone call and scheduled the tree removal within a few days. I had not noticed the tree, an 80-foot tall Norway spruce with a 3-foot diameter trunk, was rotted through and had started listing towards the street, so the prompt service was greatly appreciated. Shaun has incredible equipment that makes quick work of a big job, and he and his crew did a great job, great cleanup, and at a reasonable price for such a huge tree."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Your local government is usually in charge of pruning trees on public property, and the power company is responsible for trees near power lines (even if they’re on your property). Whether or not they top these trees depends on their approach to pruning. You won’t be able to do much to control this, but you can contact them to find out more about their pruning process.

For small trees, tree removal should take just a couple of hours to complete. Assume that a mid-sized tree will take between four and eight hours, depending on the extent of the equipment required and the health of the tree. Remember to add up to two hours for stump removal. Larger trees could take as long as one or two working days, about eight hours each.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.

Yes, many services include stump grinding to eliminate tripping hazards and improve aesthetics.
