Small jobs welcome

"Clay worked on our 15 yr old stall shower that we had done little to maintain. He was to replace all the grouting for the tumbled marble floor tile and the grout at the intersection of the floor with all vertical surfaces made up of larger marble tile. We initially discovered that the floor grouting was not drying uniformly. Multiple visits and several work arounds later, only confirmed my confidence that Clay had the experience to bring whatever skills were necessary to more than resolve our grout drying problem. Clay is a PRO, a "People Person", and dedicated to satisfying his clients' needs. My review (prior to hiring ACT ONE) of earlier references, was more than confirmed through performance on our job. I heartily recommend Clay for similar projects. Alan S. Boston"

"I recently got my bathroom floor tiles changed with Flavius. He did a wonderful job! Took his time to properly install the flooring and even fixed the base flooring to make sure no issues will come up later on. I would definitely recommend him for your tile installation."

"Eddie responded to my inquiry quickly, and was able to come by at my first convenience. He did a great job re-grouting/caulking in 2 bathrooms. One required a second visit because water had been getting behind a tile due to the failing grout, and it needed to dry thoroughly to be re-glued. Now you would never know it was not new. He was even able to take care of a tile floor problem in another room in the same visit."

"Vlad and his team were fantastic. After Vlad came to measure, he provided me with a quote and some samples. They needed to rip out old flooring and install new subfloor plus hardwood. Fast, reliable, honest, high quality, and reasonably priced. Highly, highly recommended."

"I saw Craft Design Group working on a job near my office in Newton and asked them for a proposal to remodel my bathroom. Luigi was quick to show up and assess the project and gave me some honest early suggestions which I really appreciated. He soon came back with a proposal on design options, styles, fixtures, colors, and materials. Stunned at the effort and thought that went into the proposal. I was expecting a lot less for a lot more. Luigi and team got to work and kept things really clean and quick to not impact my family which was in the home during the remodel. Luigi kept in constant contact with updates and choices as the project progressed. My home was built in 1930 and has nothing but surprises at every turn. I canâ t speak highly enough to the quality of work the team exhibited throughout the whole project, attention to detail was bar none. There were challenges, like with any project, but I was never concerned and really appreciated the upfront honesty. Bathroom came out amazing and certainly outperformed my expectations. Highly recommend Craft Design Group and I will be returning for bathroom #2 remodel. Project Details: Gut renovation of full bathroom. Removal of sink, vanity, toilet, bathtub, tiled wall, tiled floor and steam radiator. Pretty much to the bones. New insulation, New bathtub plumbing, new bigger deeper bathtub (my two girls love it). Tiled bathtub walls and installed built in shelf using the tile. Installed new drywall where the wall tile was before. Tiled floor, matching tiled bathtub symmetry. Relocated sink electrical outlets and light/fan switches. New sink plumbing, installed new vanity, counter and sink. Installed new wall mounted, modern steam radiator that doubles as towel warmer. Really pretty Benjamin Moore bunny gray paint throughout. Installed towel racks, hand towel and curtain rod. New floor transitional piece to match tile to hallway hardwood."

"Jean did great job explaining what we needed to repair and we knew it is only a temporary fix of our bathroom tile. It buys us time until we can do a full remodel we are not ready for. They completed the project in two days allowing us to get back to using the shower in quick time. Would hire again. Reasonable price all things considered these days"

Customers say: Quality work

"Ornel and Al did a great job and I am very pleased with the outcome. The tile was placed too closely to the electrical outlets and someone had to use a dremel to file the tile so the outlets could be installed, which was a pain. Ornel installed a 3 mural tile over my stove and took great care with the spacing and placement of that. I would hire them again!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.

Different types of tile cutters may work best depending on the type of tile you are cutting and the size of your project. There are two main types of tile cutters: manual and electric. Manual tile cutters are quick and easy to use for small projects and softer tile materials, but they can only make straight cuts. Electric tile cutters make light work of big projects and can cut through harder materials.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.
