"Ryan and Shannon are the nicest, most helpful people I’ve ever met. We hired them because they were so thorough and careful and really got a good “feel” from them when we got our quote. The work itself had some snags— it happens!— but I never felt unimportant or abandoned. When I said the color looked lighter than I was expecting, they came out the next day to talk about my options and make sure I was happy with how it was going. Ryan will not let anything slip by undone and is the type of guy to hop up on a ladder and do something himself if it needs doing. Great service, great communication. Looking forward to having them back to do some interior painting!"

"Mario did a fantastic job painting our new nursery - walls, trim and ceiling. After having a cancellation with another service provider earlier in the week, we contacted Mario and he came out next day to assess and quote the room. Two days later he was here to do the work - on time and on the budget we discussed. He came prepared with all of his equipment, showed us the paint color to confirm before he started and got right to work and finished in half a day! He was extremely personable and professional and we would highly recommend him for any job. We hope to work with Mario again the future!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

The need for a topcoat on a painted deck depends on various factors, primarily the type of paint used and your desired level of protection. Many premium deck paint formulations are self-sealing, eliminating the necessity for an additional topcoat. These paints often have built-in additives that substantially protect against moisture, UV rays, and everyday wear and tear.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.
