Small jobs welcome

"Sunday Landscaping helped us with a yard cleanup, and we've very happy with the result. Dave was easy to get in contact with and great to work with. He explained the cost of the job clearly. When we realized it was going to rain on the scheduled cleanup day, Dave explained how his team was going to work around the weather (and then followed through on that plan). The job was done very well, and we absolutely would work with Sunday Landscaping again."

"I tried Sod for my yard twice but my German Shepard killed it. I figured I give this a try and it has been two weeks so far and I feel it is one of the best things I have done. Yard looks great and the crew that put it in did an awesome job. They did a lot of work to level out the yard and to secure the turf down. Anyone is welcome to come and check this out in Lowell Ma. "I would definitely hire again without hesitation. John was very professional, and very prompt. I inherited my neighbors leaves, had several hostas that needed cleaning up, over grown perennials and 2 difficult areas I wasn't able to do. Had to leave for a few hours, when I got back I was amazed how great the yard looked. Didn't fine 1 leaf on the ground, the price was very reasonable compared what I paid the last 2 times. I highly recommend hiring this company for your yard clean up. You will be as pleased as I am. Thank you John for a job well done."

"Very professional. The owner does a wonderful job. Our walkway was completed on time for our daughter’s graduation party. The walkway is beautiful! Making the front of our house so much nicer. We would definitely recommend Schade landscaping to anyone needing a walkway or patio. We would use him again if we have anything else that needs landscaping work. Thank you for making our home more beautiful!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can absolutely transplant bushes instead of removing them completely. The success depends on the size of the bushes, their age, and the transplanting season. Ideally, transplant during the dormant season (late fall or winter). Dig out the entire root system in one piece, fill the new hole with fresh soil and mulch, and water thoroughly after planting.

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.

You should exercise care when deciding how to landscape over a leach field for your septic system. You typically want lightweight materials that won’t damage the drain field’s perforated pipes. When adding plants to the area, select plants with shallow roots, such as grass or flower gardens. Trees with deep roots could damage the pipes in the field.

Most experts recommend a quarter-inch layer of compost for best results, and you will need about .77 cubic yards of material per 1,000 square feet. To measure how much compost to use, take the square footage of your yard and multiply it by .77, then divide that number by 1,000.

While both fall and spring are suitable times of the year for planting trees, fall is typically the better option. Soil stays warm long enough to allow tree roots to establish in fall before they go dormant, while spring might give way to intense summer heat before spring-planted trees have time to grow strong roots.
