"I wish I could give Cotton Tree Service more than five stars. They have removed 5 trees from our property on two separate occasions. Four were over 30 feet tall. All the trees were removed carefully and professionally with heavy equipment and yet our lawn was not damaged. The hard working crew was very polite, professional and knowledgeable. The owner Tom was on site to operate the large crane and his skill was amazing to watch. There will be more tree removal in our future and Cotton Tree Service will be the only one we will call. I highly recommend them."

Adding a second coat of stain to wood can even out the color to some extent, but it won't drastically alter the hue if the initial application is too light or too dark. There are several ways to make a wooden fence more visually appealing and keep it that way for years to come.

  • Treat the fence with a wood sealant to protect it against the elements. It’s recommended to reseal a fence every two to three years, but if you live in a harsh climate, you may want to do it more frequently than that.

  • Restore the fence if it’s old, corroding, or fading. That includes cleaning it and making small repairs where needed.

  • Paint the fence in a color that you like, whether that’s a simple white or more vibrant option. Fences usually need to be repainted every one to three years.

  • Decorate the fence with planters, string lights, birdhouses, mirrors, shutters, and more.

Moisture and rot are the largest threat to wooden fences. Stain can help your wood fence last 15 to 20 years, but only if you choose a stain with waterproofing qualities or add a sealant. Oil-based stains create a thicker moisture barrier than water-based stains, though both are mold and mildew resistant. You’ll generally need to re-stain your fence every one to eight years to get full protection.

You can only change your neighbor's fence with their permission. A neighbor's fence is their property, and altering it without their consent could constitute trespassing or property damage, which may have legal consequences. If you have concerns or disagreements about your neighbor's fence, communicate with them openly and try to reach a mutually agreeable solution.
