"All Service Moving was exceptional. Great customer service - easy to schedule and flexible. Royce & Frost did an AMAZING job moving all of our very heavy and fragile belongings. They handled all of our requests and items with care and worked both efficiently and quickly. They were super friendly and very customer service oriented. I can't thank them enough for the GREAT job they did. I highly recommend All Service Moving for anything moving and/or storage related. And DEFINITELY request Royce & Frost to handle your job. Thank You!"

"I moved to a new apartment with a large wardrobe and heavy furniture. The movers handled everything carefully, wrapping the smaller items in blankets and moving the larger items on dollies. They also took the time to ensure that my electronics and delicate lamps were packed securely. They were truly exceptional in moving things."

"We used these movers twice last week, once for my housemate, the following day for me. My review primarily concerns my experiences the day I was moved. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. I did discuss issues regarding my move with the company directly. Michael was not particularly conciliatory at the time, but he said he would discuss with management and get back to me. That was a week ago, with no follow-up. The TLDR version boils down to a lack of professionalism, especially given the top tier rates the company charges. I've moved several times using a few different companies, so I have something to compare them to. First, the positives: 1. The "inside" movers were generally polite and personable. 2. They were careful not to scrape walls. 3. During unloading they were careful to ask what room I wanted things in. Now, the negatives: 1. Items damaged: I had two large items damaged. One was a unique expensive floor lamp, broken beyond repair. I should have known even the low-end insurance wouldn't cover it because the mover was so apologetic, but didn't find out until after they'd left and I had no real recourse. The fact that lamps aren't covered is apparently in the "disclosures" section, but it is definitely buried in the fine print. Had I known this, I would have moved the lamp myself - and for the record, it wasn't a fragile lamp, it had survived 3 previous moves without issues. The second item was my love seat, the underlining was ripped off. One of the movers offered to fix it if I had small nails. Yes, of course, in the literal middle of a move I will conjure up some upholstery nails... 2. Efficiency: With a top tier moving company I expect expertise and preparation. These guys spent 45 minutes discussing/attempting to move my desk alone. I had to suggest to them to remove the door from the room. I had to provide them tools. In previous moves (including the move with the desk going into the room in question), there was none of this. It just happened, quickly, quietly, no fuss, which is what I expect when I am paying professionals. 3. Speaking of preparation: both the day they moved my housemate and the day they moved me, they asked for water. I have zero problem providing a worker with water IF I'M NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF A MOVE. I had one cup, and they used it. Obviously I'm not going to deny men doing hard physical labor in the heat water, so I sucked it up. I stopped and bought them water on my drive to the new place so this wouldn't be an issue during unloading. I've moved several times, never once has a company's workers not come prepared in this respect. 4. They did bring a small amount of water and drinks for themselves...I know, because they left the trash on the stairs at both the old place and outside at the new place. 5. They went 25% over the high end of their estimate. I expect moves to run long. There's always more than you think, etc. But these guys were just not working with the same efficiency that my previous movers did. So, to recap, they broke my stuff, they were slow while using my tools and asking my advice, they left their own trash around, and left me without hydration, while charging $169/hr. Definitely do not recommend."

Moving questions, answered by experts

The average cost to hire professional movers is approximately $1,700, but the total price can range from as low as $920 to over $12,000 depending on the move's complexity. For local moves, typically under 100 miles, costs generally fall between $920 and $2,530. Long-distance moves are more expensive, with prices ranging from $2,700 to $10,000 or more.

Several key factors influence the final cost:

  • Distance and Home Size: The mileage of the move and the size of your home.

  • Number of Movers: Hourly rates can range from $25 to $50 for one or two movers, increasing to $100 to $200 for a team of four or more.

  • Services: Additional services like packing, unpacking, and storage will add to the cost.

  • Specialty Items: Moving large or delicate items such as pianos, vehicles, or large aquariums incurs extra charges.

  • Timing and Access: The time of year, your specific moving date, and the ease of access to your home can affect rates.

Don’t forget to account for other potential costs like moving supplies and tipping your movers.

The number of boxes you need to move depends on the size of their house and whether your style is minimalist or maximalist. However, on average, most people need around 60 boxes to move. It’s essential to pick the correct box sizes to ensure efficient packing.

Unscrew and remove furniture legs if possible. If it’s not possible, then run the straps parallel on the inner side of the furniture legs. Never put your straps on the outer side of legs where they can easily slip off.

It’s important to never lay a flat-screen TV on its side when moving. Weight can damage the fragile screen, and falling objects are a risk. Always place your TV upright between other large flat objects so it isn’t crushed when the load shifts on a turn. Use moving blankets to pad the space between the objects.

Yes, it is cheaper to move yourself than to hire professional movers. The average DIY move costs $120 to $2,300, while professionals cost $890 to $2,570 on average or up to $12,000 for the longest distances. While you’ll save on the cost of professional labor with a DIY move, you’ll spend more time and energy packing, loading, transporting, unloading, and unpacking.
