"The team at ABC Painting & Carpentry did an amazing job on our home. They washed it, replaced some trim and clapboard, primed, and stained/painted everything. They were thorough and worked from 7am until dusk each day. The crew is very skilled, meticulous and courteous. The owner is very responsive and flexible. Our 32 year old house looks new again! I highly recommend ABC Painting & Carpentry."

"Paul and his team were absolutely fantastic! They were so courteous and respectful and meticulous in their prep and carpentry work- and we had A LOT of things that needed fixing like rotted windowsills, broken deck stairs, incomplete trim moulding, broken shingles and a crooked garage cupola. They fixed it all! Now my 115 year old house looks so beautiful and I can’t thank Paul and his team enough. They were also so tidy and cleaned up their work areas every afternoon before they left. If you’re considering Olde England Painting just hire them. You will not be disappointed. Last but not least, they were also the most reasonable quote I got and I met with 5 other painters. I would hire them again in a heartbeat!"

"I highly recommend Kennedy Painting! Brain (the owner) was very personable and provided excellent customer service. When we walked around my house to going over what work needed to be done, he asked a lot questions and gave me some advice about different projects around the house. He also provided more than one estimate, so that we have different options to which we could choose from. Brian’s crew worked efficiently and did an excellent job with our exterior trim and deck. They scraped, sanded, primed and painted the trim of our house and sanded and painted our deck, not only to make it look better, but to preserve it for years to come. Thank you Kennedy Painting!"

"We had all the interior of our home painted and some carpentry work done as well. In addition, we had our kitchen cabinets painted white to modernize the appearance. We had a railing placed in our home. The Quality of the Painting was Exceptional. The painters did an outstanding job. Their work was of high quality and detailed oriented. They were always on time and extremely neat. It was a pleasure to have the painters in our home. Our home looks refreshed and beautiful. We would hire Quality Preferred Painting again. "Hired DaCosta Painting to paint my family room and sunroom. Sunroom has 5 casement windows and a slider that was previously stained that I wanted painted. Also had some cracks in the walls and a section where the plaster was cracked from water damage. They came in and gave me a very reasonable quote for the work that needed to be done. They repaired all of the cracks, painted the ceiling, walls, and trim and did a great job. Owner was very responsive and gave us his suggestions on color and finish. They are going to quote to paint the front of my house this spring. I would definitely hire them again."

"This took place a couple of years ago. What I remember is a personable crew, had no problems with scheduling or neatness. However, we had to have them back to re-paint some stained areas of 2 bathroom ceilings. We ended up fixing them ourselves. I don't remember the cost."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Constant exposure to inclement weather conditions can damage your deck, causing it to fade, warp, or crack over time. Regular maintenance keeps it looking and performing its best. That means giving it a good cleaning and applying a quality sealant or wood treatment to help defend against moisture, sun damage, and everyday wear.

Yes, pressure-treated wood can occasionally turn green due to certain preservatives, such as copper-based chemicals, used during the treatment process. These chemicals react with the wood, creating a greenish tint. The good news? It's temporary, and the color will fade over time. Staining or painting can also help hide any unwanted hues.

Beyond liquid rubber, homeowners can use sealants, stains, membranes, or tapes as waterproofing options. Oil-based or water-based sealants soak into the wood, creating a moisture-resistant barrier. Waterproofing stains—available in transparent, semi-transparent, and solid colors—add both protection and style to your deck. For heavy-duty waterproofing, deck membranes and waterproof tapes can be applied under the deck boards to direct water away from the structure below. Whatever method you choose, clean and prep the deck first to ensure the best, longest-lasting results.

Hiring a contractor or professional deck refinisher is the best way to ensure your deck is properly stained. They have the expertise, tools, and supplies to do the job quickly and efficiently. However, staining a deck is a manageable task for most homeowners, and doing the job yourself can save money. Just keep in mind that DIY staining is a long process requiring physical strain, so it may not be the best option for everyone.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.
