Customers say: Quality work

"Craig and his team stand out in what is a very competitive market. Start to finish I was pleased with Craig's professionalism, insight, patience, and quality of work performed. As you would expect with most large jobs his price per head came down as we expanded into other parts of the lawn and his estimate was the price, no surprises.
I highly recommend The Irrigation Company and I look forward to the opportunity of working with them again in the future.

"I am very happy with the work of Leisha and her team! I wanted to transform a part of our backyard lawn into a pollinator garden. Although this was not a huge piece of land Leisha took the request seriously, came to see the yard and its surroundings and then made a reasonable offer. She designed what plants would be put in and drafted an online plant book for me with more information about the plants. Communication was always easy and quick - I'm very happy with the result and love the view out of the kitchen window now!"

"My yard was nothing but scrub trees, roots, rocks, a badly placed stone wall and old tree stumps - a haven for woodchucks and almost too difficult to mow - coupled with poor drainage and a badly deteriorated front step. The work that Dan, his crew and subcontractors accomplished in just a couple weeks is unbelievable. While always professional, hard working, and "no nonsense" while on the job, they were also always very pleasant and easy to talk to. Dan was personally on site to direct and/or participate in every aspect of the project. They removed several dangerous trees and tree stumps, a truck load of boulders, excavated the woodchuck burrow, replaced the badly deteriorated front step with beautiful bluestone, and regraded and filled the front and side yard areas to resolved serious drainage issues to preserve the home before installing the new lawn and plantings. The end result is a true transformation. Dan is an artist when it comes to landscape design, from selection and placement of each plant set off by gorgeous stones, an outer farmer's wall to define the front line, beautiful new trees, and a flower garden that is a balm to my soul. He was sensitive to relocate and use existing plants that had special meaning to me. He is responsive to my questions, has guided me in proper lawn and garden care and returns to check on how the lawn and plants are doing. No one can control the weather, but Dan is there for the long term to make sure the end result is beautiful. His pricing is detailed, transparent and fair. He explains every item carefully both before the contract is signed and after the work is completed. The only slight negative is that because he is so good and in demand, one may have to wait awhile for work to begin - but the wait is worth it. I definitely plan on using him again."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

The average cost to mow a lawn is about $125 per visit, with prices typically ranging from $50 to $205. The final cost depends on several factors, including your location, yard size, lawn shape, accessibility, grass type and length, and the frequency of service. Lawns with obstacles, steep slopes, or hard-to-reach areas may cost more. If a company charges by size, you can expect to pay between $0.01 and $0.06 per square foot, or $150 to $200 per acre.

A general breakdown of costs by lawn size is as follows:

• 3,500 square feet: $35–$210

• 5,000 square feet: $50–$300

• 10,000 square feet: $100–$600

• 1 Acre: $150–$200

• 2 Acres: $300–$400

• 3 Acres: $450–$600

• 4 Acres: $600–$800

• 5 Acres: $750–$1,000

• 10 Acres: $1,500–$2,000

• 15 Acres: $2,250–$3,000

Keep in mind that these prices generally cover routine maintenance like mowing and edging. Additional services such as raking leaves, weeding, trimming, or applying pesticides can add $400 or more to your total cost.

The price of lawn maintenance depends on your lawn's size and the type of services. The average homeowner spends around $300 on lawn care, but ongoing maintenance can range between $100 and $500 monthly. Regular tasks such as mowing will cost less than a specialized task like tree trimming and grass planting.

You can mow a lawn the wrong way by cutting off more than ⅓ of the grass's height, causing stress to the lawn and weak roots. If you don't cut your grass often enough, you’ll get weeds and cause damage to your mower and grass. But if you regularly mow your lawn and create straight lines in alternating directions, you’ll see great results.

The best way to clean an overgrown yard is to create a multi-stage game plan, from clearing out the debris to cleaning up the edges around hardscaping and landscape curbing. Get rid of yard debris like worn furniture and broken tools first, then start trimming and raking what’s left. Mow the grass, trim the hedges, and rake leaves away. Once that’s complete, move on to more detailed work, like pulling weeds and replanting gardens.

You can fertilize right after mowing as long as you've collected the clippings. If you leave grass clipping, they can form a mat that prevents the fertilizer from reaching the soil. Plus, grass clippings are rich in nitrogen, so if you leave them and then apply fertilizer, you can end up with too much nitrogen in the soil.
