"Flavio is an artist with tiles and enjoys his work. He and his wife were very professional and fair. They had a written contract that they were willing to negotiate reasonably. He and his crew showed up when they said they would cleaned up after their work . He returned extra tiles to the store to save me money and showed receipts.Over all a pleasure to work with."

"Hired to remove large accent panel over kitchen sink and install subway tile to match the rest of tile and pattern of kitchen backsplash. Some damage to wall which was expected since it was attached with cement and the new tile needed to be cut to fit but I expected that, too. Another tile installer I hired actually backed out of the job for that reason. Wall was repaired and tile job looked fine . Fair price. Orlen was always on time , answering calls, texts. The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface. 

Grouting hearth tiles is one of the most important steps. It seals the tiles so heat doesn’t transfer under the tiles so easily, which can be dangerous. For this reason, heat-resistant grout is a must. Grout also prevents dust, dirt, and any other material from gathering between your tiles. If this happens and those buildups are flammable, a fire could start between the tiles. 

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.
