"I hired Mike because of his relaxed authenticity and obvious knowledge of pools that I picked up in our first phone conversation. Other companies gave me higher bids and a lot of smoke and mirrors that just rubbed me wrong (as an old salesman myself). Mike arrived on time, installed the new liner, fixed a leak in the skimmer, and gave me a once over lesson that greatly improved my comprehension of how to keep the filter and the chemicals in balance. I've asked him to come back in September to install a new cover for the winter. In every way, it was utter pleasure to deal with such a true pro. I cannot recommend him enough."

"The flooring in my diner was cracked in spots and needed replacing. Tim came out to check out the job and give me and estimate. It was a very fair price. The old flooring was torn up and the surface was prepped and leveled. The epoxy coating was applied. The removal and application were both completed in a neat and timely fashion. Time was of the essence as every day I was closed was lost sales. The crew worked long hours to finish as quickly as possible. I am very happy with the result and would definitely use Concrete Concepts and Design again. Tim is actually coming out to see what he can do to repair the concrete deck around my pool. I highly recommend Tim and his crew."

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

It’s a good idea to wait at least 24 hours after opening your pool before you swim in it. Pool opening often involves shocking the water, and the chemical levels need to come down a bit before it’s safe to swim. You can continue testing your water pH and chlorine levels if you’re in a rush. It’s wise to wait until your chlorine levels drop to under four parts per million (ppm) and you have a water pH of between 7.2 and 7.8. You can artificially lower your water pH to speed up the process.

An easy way to know whether your sand filter has enough sand is to check how full the filter is and what the sand looks and feels like. The filter container should be two-thirds to three-quarters full of sand. Look for interior marks indicating the ideal sand level. If you put your hand into the sand, it should flow through your fingers without clumping. The filter pressure gauge is also an easy indicator—the right amount of sand leads to normal pressure, while too much or too little sand can cause high or low pressure.

Detecting a leak in your pool costs about $300 on average. The price ranges widely from low $100 up to $1,000. Here are the costs involved in leak detection services for your pool:

  • Pool inspection: $125–$250

  • Above ground pool leak detection: $100–$700

  • Inground pool leak detection: $400–1,000

  • Vinyl liner repair: $350–$3,600

  • Fiberglass lining repair: $300–$400

  • Concrete liner repair: $75 per linear foot

  • Pressure test pool lines: $200–$500

  • Skimmer repair: $100–$250

  • Main drain repair: $400–$700

  • Pump repair: $50–$300

  • Tile repair: $20-$30 per linear foot

While you shouldn’t notice water that has an appropriate amount of chlorine in it (less than 4 parts per million), you could feel sick from drinking overly chlorinated water. Chlorine exposure can cause nausea, vomiting, coughing, and dizziness. Chronic chlorine exposure (meaning multiple or repeated instances) can make you feel like you have the flu, according to the CDC.

A pool heater is worth the expense, given that it can extend your swimming season by several months, depending on where you live. For many, adding a pool heater allows the pool to remain in service from May through mid-October. Even temperatures in the 40s and 50s are tolerable when the water in the pool is heated.
