"This is our third renovation with the Dolans. They consistently do what they say they will do, when they say the will do it for the price that they quote. Lorraine and Caroline work with us to ensure the design is what we are looking for and in our budget. They do really high quality and professional work"
"Long Baths is simply great. They installed the shower of my dream that through no fault of their own succumbed to a manufactures defect. Chris Reynard and Long Baths worked fast and replaced my shower covered by my warranty at no additional charge. I am thankful to know I worked with a company that stood by their work and lifetime warranty."
"We acquired a condominium on the 2nd floor of a 2 family house in Arlington. MA. The existing hardwood floors were beyond repair and we wanted to add a 2nd bathroom. In addition we wanted to integrate the existing sun porch into the living room to more than recover the area lost to the new bathroom, and install central A/C. We had estimates from three other contractors before we met with Pedro from Crystal Renovations. His pricing was very competitive relative to the other contractors, but that was mostly due to the others trying to add work that we didn't want or need. Pedro listened to what we wanted and worked with us to accomplish it. From the very beginning of the project until the end Pedro was always responsive and answered, emails, texts, and phone messages in a very timely fashion. He and his crew and subs were a pleasure to work with and any issues that arose were dealt with in a calm and professional manner. Before and during the project Pedro made several design suggestions such as recessed lighting on the sun porch, shower stall light, and new bath layout that definitely improved on our original thoughts. In the end the project came in on time and with a very small increase to the original estimate despite some challenges he and his crew had to work through. The best part, though, is the absolute impeccable quality of the finished product. We highly recommend Pedro and Crystal Renovations and plan to use them again in the near future."
"Kitchen faucet needed to be replaced. Was able to schedule with Chris quickly and get the job done with little inconvenience. A good experience and I would recommend him to others."
"Bill was absolutely wonderful to work with. We asked him to assist with two small projects (which we feared might be too small, but he assured us were not), and he gave us the service we would have hoped for had they been much larger. We had purchased a new hardwood "custom" vanity for the master bathroom. Because the house is quite old, the floor in the bathroom is uneven, and the vanity had to be both cut down and leveled to sit flush with the floor while still aligning on a horizontal plane with the wall tiles - no small task. As an initial matter, Bill was incredibly responsive - returning my initial call promptly, asking all the right questions, and providing an estimate based upon our discussion and his detailed questions. He was able to get us on his schedule immediately despite having a number of larger (and no doubt more lucrative) projects in the works. On the morning of the project, he called to say that he would be briefly delayed because he had received an emergency call from a school in Cambridge that needed assistance before the start of the school day (they have relied on him as a Good Samaritan in the past, and needed him again), and his desire to assist the school, while still getting to us in a timely manner earned him high marks from us as well. When he arrived, her worked quickly and effieciently and got the vanity into true custom shape in short order. The work area was spotless when he was finished. We are just thrilled with the new vanity thanks to Bill. For the second project, Bill was able to assist even before arriving. The house had custom cherry kitchen cabinetry installed by the former owner over 18 years ago. When we recently replaced the stove, a gap resulted in the woodwork. Bill was able to direct us to a woodshop that carried the matching wood even before he arrived. Bill was then able to quickly make a "kickplate" for the stove that filled in the gap, making it look as though it was always there. We could not have been happier with our experience working with Bill. We would highly recommend him, and plan to use him again very soon. "
"Greg showed up on time, and replaced my carpets, with oak flooring. Greg was very respectful and responsive throughout the whole process.
I would recommend Greg and his business to a friend or neighbor.
Thanks!
Andrew"
"Ari was super responsive, professional and very easy to discuss the projects with. He was knowledgeable and handled every part of the project which included fully repairing a water damaged wall and hardwood floor as well as replacing part of a damaged window. He also tiled a section of a bathroom. The work was done in a timely fashion and of high quality. Will definitely contract Ari again."
Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts
If you don’t caulk your bathtub, then there won’t be a watertight seal between your bathtub and the wall tile surrounding it. As a result, water can seep into the wall and the floor and cause the perfect breeding grounds for mold and mildew. Not only does this require costly repairs, but mold can be harmful to those breathing it.
There are several ways to save money on a bathroom remodel through proper planning and savvy design strategies. To reduce costs, consider the following:
Purchase your own materials: Buy your own bathroom fixtures, hardware, and other materials to avoid contractor upcharges and delivery fees.
Shop smart for big-ticket items: Save on pricey items like tiles and tubs by shopping sales and at discount stores.
Avoid major layout changes: Keep plumbing in its current location. Opt to replace fixtures rather than moving them to avoid significant renovation work.
Focus on high-impact, low-cost updates: Make affordable but impactful smaller changes, such as upgrading hardware, installing new lighting, and adding stylish but economical accessories.
DIY where possible: Handle easier parts of the remodel yourself, like painting or installing light fixtures, to save on labor costs.
Time your remodel strategically: Consider remodeling in the spring, which tends to be a lower-demand time of year and may result in lower costs.
Acrylic tubs can fade or turn yellow over time due to thick layers of accumulated dirt, hard water deposits from minerals, and shampoo or soap dyes. Also, as an acrylic tub ages, it may become dull or change color due to changes in the acrylic itself.
Start by gutting the old fixtures and features that need to be removed, such as the tile, vanity, and flooring. You may benefit by removing the toilet, even if you intend to use the same one. Next, install the new shower or tub, followed by the flooring, and then the drywall, which you should then paint. After that, install your new cabinets, vanity, countertop, sink, and faucet, in that order. Replace your light fixture next. Lastly, reconnect the toilet.
Yes, you can remove a bathtub yourself if you have previous DIY experience and basic plumbing knowledge. You should have at least one other person help you if you approach this project as a DIY. However, hiring a plumber or bathroom remodeling pro can prevent accidental damage from demolition or water leakage.
