"I couldn't recommend Marcin enough! He recently helped me with some work around the house, and everything came out even better than I expected. He was professional, and easy to communicate with throughout the whole process. What I appreciated most was his attention to detail and the pride he clearly takes in his work. I wouldn't call anyone else! "

"CCI did an outstanding job transforming our 1960's colonial into an inviting home that will take us well into the future. CCI renovated the downstairs of our home, including a kitchen and building an addition. Our home is breathtaking-our friends and family are literally astounded by the professional quality of the work and the beauty of it. Bob, the owner of CCI, is a skilled craftsman, is responsive and answers all questions and concerns. His crew are respectful and competent and also communicate effectively. They are trustworthy and were in and out of our home for just over a year-without incident or issue. Bob has vision and knows what will and will not work. Many other contractors we have worked with in the past give low bids then find issues that up the price. Bob prices jobs accordingly and in a straightforward manner. His subcontractors are very professional and know their craft. I will never have any work done by any other contractors-they are that good."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

While some highly experienced homeowners can frame a house independently, it is not advisable. You will need ample carpentry experience, a team of helpers, and professionals to sign off on your work to meet local building codes. For the safest outcome, we recommend buying or building a house with the guidance of professionals.

While a romantic getaway in a vacation treehouse may sound appealing, building one to live in year-round comes with more challenges. However, a growing number of people are adopting this small-scale living approach to appreciate an off-the-grid, private lifestyle. It allows you to feel closer to nature in a sustainable, customizable, minimalist, and eco-friendly way.

Common pitfalls include underestimating the cost of site preparation, overlooking permit and utility fees, and not setting aside funds for unexpected changes. Change orders during construction can disrupt your budget. It’s best to plan a detailed budget, obtain multiple quotes, and include a 10% to 15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses.

Green homes are often more expensive to build, averaging around $200 per square foot compared to the $150 per square foot you’d spend to build a standard home. However, green homes can save you money on your utility bills by consuming less energy or creating energy using solar panels or wind turbines on-site. They’re more expensive to build, but they often end up costing less in the long run.

The average build timeline for a home is between six and 12 months, with timelines pushing toward the upper end of that range if you’re creating a custom design or need a lot of land preparation before getting started. Hiring a general contractor or a custom homebuilder will help speed up the process, as you’ll see fewer delays between different parts of the build process getting done.
