Customers say: True professional

"Hilario, Juan and Miguel worked tirelessly over a week on several different projects. Hilario met with me and we agreed on a price that was better than two other contractors I had asked to quote the jobs. I was encouraged by the strong reviews that I found on Home Advisor, so I decided to go with him and I am very glad that I did. He did brick work on a retaining wall, a walkway, a pillar and a chimney. He installed a patio and a firepit. that is beautiful. I added on another project: demolish a shed and pour a foundation for the new shed, both jobs he handled well. He and his team were professional, hard-working and cleaned up after themselves daily. I would strongly recommend Hilario for any masonry work that you might need done. The finished product is beautiful."

"Jimmy and team did an unbelievable job installing a stone patio on our backyard while also rebuilding a stone divider and laying sod. From first contact, Jimmy was really easy to work with. Him and his team were very friendly and worked really fast. They finished the job earlier than expected which was a nice surprise. The quality of work was top notch as well. I would recommend Jimmy to anyone looking for high quality Landscaping and masonry."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Mortar, or masonry mortar, is mainly used in joints and as parging for stone, brick, or cement construction. Stucco is primarily a surface material used as wall coverings. For maintenance, masonry will need repointing or replacing as damage or land shifting occurs, whereas stucco will need patching or refinishing as it tends to crack over time along with other types of wear-and-tear.

It is possible, albeit a lot slower, to break up a rock using water. You would do this by freezing and thawing the water. You could create some initial holes or cracks in the rock, then pour water into the cracks or holes and allow them to freeze (so it's best to do this in winter or in colder climates). Since water expands when it freezes, this puts pressure on the inside of the rock and causes it to crack. You could continue to pour more water in and let it freeze to continue to break up the rock.

Brick can increase the value of your home depending on the type of masonry materials used. Homes generally have a higher resale value when they have brick siding, and brick is also easier to maintain (and lasts longer) than other types of siding, which can motivate buyers to make an offer.

Just keep in mind, however, that although brick can up the asking price when you sell your house, the cost to brick a house is also more expensive than other typical siding costs—so you’ll invest more in the project.

Always work with licensed and certified masons in your area when installing a stone wall or even a stone veneer. Just like all home designers, they should provide an impressive portfolio and offer a free estimate for the project. Pick the pro who fits your budget and schedule and, most importantly, helps you realize your landscape vision.

Depending on the amount of soot present, you can vacuum some of it using a brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Then, remove the leftovers with a mild cleaner, such as dish soap or vinegar mixed with water. Before applying a cleaning solution, saturate the bricks with clean water to prevent the cleaner from penetrating beyond the surface and causing structural damage to the bricks.
