"On October 12, 2004, one week ago today, I signed a contract with a major brand flooring company to commence work on Oct 16th. I had them do we ork for me years ago and didn't have any issues. After the ssles rep left I looked at their reviews which were horrible. The next morning, I called the sales rep and expressed my concerns and that I was thinking of canceling. I then went back to Angi's list and found Taozen flooring, called and spoke with the owner, Robert Laporte. He came right over, took measurements, looked underneath the carpeting, identified a problem with a slope in the floor and came up with a solution of leveling the floor. He showed me a couple of samples and I chose a warm light brown. He started the project 4 days later which was Thu Oct 17th at 8 am. He returned the following day at 9:30 am and the job was completed by 2 pm. I could not be more pleased. He was fair, professional and really knows what he's doing. I highly recommend him. The floor is beautiful."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

The first step in budgeting for carpet is to determine the amount of carpet you need and the type of carpet you want. You might be tempted to opt for the least expensive option if you have a limited budget, but a low-quality carpet won’t last as long as a high-quality one. When accounting for future carpet repair costs, it makes sense to buy the best-quality carpet you can afford.

Transition strips are often called seam binders as they bridge the gap between two floor types. They are common between carpeting and hardwood or wood and tile. Transition strips prevent trips and falls and make the transition from each room appear seamless. They are also often used to even out height differences between floors.

Whether you install flooring before or after kitchen cabinets depends primarily on the type of flooring you are using. For materials like hardwood, tile, and sheet flooring, the best practice is to install the flooring first. This ensures the cabinets are installed at the correct height and on a stable surface. However, you should not install cabinets on top of floating floors, such as laminate or luxury vinyl plank (LVP). These types of flooring need room to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Placing heavy cabinets on top can restrict this movement, potentially causing the floor to buckle and making the cabinets unstable. For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

Laminate flooring takes about 24 to 48  hours to settle. Before this, planks are not completely acclimated to your home, and walking on them could cause shifting and permanent damage to the flooring. You should allow floorboards to acclimate for 48 to 72 hours before installing so that they can adjust to your home’s humidity and temperature levels, but they will continue to acclimate and settle after installation. For this reason, avoid placing any furniture in the room for 72 hours after installation.

Your floors will continue to settle for a few months after installation, becoming less bouncy as they rest.

Laminate flooring should be stacked horizontally and laid flat to avoid any warping or stress to the boards. To stack it, you should do so in a grid with each row of flooring packages positioned at a 90-degree angle to the layer beneath it. This will provide the best support so the flooring will not sag in the middle.
