"Tim and Hannah helped me remodel and finish my basement, including dry wall, flooring, in-house doors and basement board installation and painting. They delivered awesome job. They are very professional and are nicest people I have seen in the contractor’s industry. Their quote is most reasonable among the quotes I have received, and they also provided valuable suggestions to help me save budget. I will definitely hire them again if I have other renovation needs for my house."

"A very bad prolonged wind storm did major damage to many houses in the area. Many homes had roof damage, including our two roofs. More work than there was contractors to repair them. We were not in the area at the time, nor knew any contractors in the area to repair our roofs. During major catastrophes, you have to be careful not to be con'd by unqualified con artist looking to take your money, so we chose Angie's List for a contractor. We chose Excel (Mike) to repair our roofs. He is licenses and insured and his quote was the lowest of all the quotes we received. Even though he was extremely busy with all the work that was out there, he found time on the weekend to repair our roofs. We signed a standard service contract and Mike started the job as promised. The roofs came out awesome, Mike and his crew did an awesome job !! And they did it all while trying to fix everyone else's roofs. Not knowing where to turn to during this major weather event, and being out of town, it was nice to know that you can trust Angie's List to provide qualified people. You can also trust Excel to do a great job at a great price and be confident when you give them a deposit, they can be trusted. The entire transaction was done long distance without ever meeting each other. It was mutual trust based on reviews and being qualified to be on Angie's List. Just imagine when your transaction is in person."

"He showed up on time and gave us some good ideas. However, he let us know that he was afraid of dogs even though ours is only seven pounds. He also told us a 10 x 12 deck would be 8,500 dollars. 2 other contractres told us they could do it for less than 3 grand. It was my understanding that he was supposed to get back to us with an estimate, but we never heard back from him. If he wasn't interested in doing the job, a phone call or a text would have been nice.

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

The primary benefits of an egress window include providing a safe emergency exit, increasing natural light in a space like a basement, and improving ventilation. Additionally, installing an egress window can often increase your property's value.

Most modern egress windows installed in basements open outward into a window well, although some older homes have in-swing windows. Egress windows, like casement windows used in other parts of the home, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, may open inward, and these windows are often larger than outward-opening windows.

The average cost to install an egress window is approximately $3,900, with a typical range between $2,500 and $5,300, though costs can be higher. The final price is influenced by several factors, including the window's size, type, material, and glass quality. Other variables include labor costs, location, excavation needs, and whether permits or a structural engineer consultation are required. The price of the window itself often depends on the number of panes:

  • Single-pane: $100–$400

  • Double-pane: $200–$500

  • Triple-pane: $300–$800

Additional features like window wells or covers will also increase the total project cost. It is advisable to obtain multiple quotes from professionals to get a comprehensive understanding of the expenses for your specific project.

DIY is possible for experienced individuals. Professional installation ensures compliance with building codes and proper sealing.

Yes, you can always make an existing window bigger, but the job complexity varies widely depending on the location of the window and the framing around it. Exterior walls are always load-bearing, so making windows wider will require structural changes that make for a more complex but doable project. Making windows taller often won’t require structural changes.
