Customers say: True professional

"Nick did a quality job in fixing the rotted custom woodwork on the exterior of my house by replacing it with PVC Trimboard, and the results look great. He also did a nice job in replacing my rusted bulkhead and the back door to the garage, along with removing an exterior shower. Nick showed a commitment to excellence and completed the entire job on time with a fair price. His part-time assistant Andy also did great work. Nick is a professional who definitely knows his craft and is easy to work with. He explained the job required and answered all my questions in terms that I understood. I would definitely contact Nick again if needed."

"Highly recommended. Jose and Cesar were great. They were reliable and their work was excellent. They completely remodeled our condo including 4 bathrooms, floors, fireplace/hearth, etc. It was a big job and they worked with us to make sure everything came out exactly the way we wanted. The cost was very reasonable."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

While carpenters and woodworkers perform similar tasks, their focus differs. A carpenter is typically responsible for the structural woodwork involved in construction, such as framing, installing sheathing, hanging kitchen cabinets, and installing trusses. In contrast, a woodworker handles more intricate and custom projects, like building custom furniture, installing wainscoting, and creating detailed interior trim and moldings. Based on these definitions, many woodworkers can perform the tasks of a carpenter, but it's always best to discuss your specific project with a professional to ensure they have the necessary skills.

Before hiring a carpenter, the most important thing is to make sure they are properly qualified and insured for the job. It’s more than reasonable to ask your prospective carpenter for customer references, as well as about their licensing and insurance. You should also consider choosing a carpenter that specializes in your specific project area to ensure high-quality results.

If you don’t have a power saw with a blade where you can adjust the angle, you could use a miter box and hand saw to make the cuts. The miter box contains wide slots to support the piece of baseboard and other narrow slots to accommodate the blade of the hand saw. However, it’s tough to make non-standard cuts beyond 30 or 45 degrees when using a miter box.

Yes, ceiling joists are typically load-bearing. However, their primary function is to support the weight of the ceiling and loads applied to it, like lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. They can also help support the roof, especially if they’re part of truss systems. Remember, the load-bearing capacity of ceiling joists depends on the material, size, and space between them.

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.
