They rely on subpar subcontractors with no professionalism or craftsmanship. ? Overpromise and underdeliver: I had to stay on top of every detail myself, doing the job the contractor was hired to manage. ? Unreliable: Never kept appointments or confirmed schedules. The only time they showed up on time was to collect payment. ? Unsafe practices: At one point, a subcontractor was cutting concrete inside the bathroom with a gas?powered tool, filling my entire home with smoke. I had to intervene to stop it and argue just to get basic protections like tarps in place. ? Poor management: Subcontractors openly complained about not being paid, and I even had to send one home myself because of unacceptable behavior. ? End result: Substandard work that does not reflect the money spent. Save yourself "

At a time when it’s difficult to find contractors who do what they say they’ll do, Norbert stands out… he and his crew are a joy rather than the typical headache! And their work—it’s just beautiful. Referred to us by a trusted friend (who also has a review here), we saw the quality of his work and hired them for a shed foundation with paver trim. We were so happy we hired him again to redesign our house’s front entry stairs, and stamp our front walkway, driveway lamp posts, and house foundation. It came out better than we could have hoped and enhanced the curb appeal of our house tremendously. Next, we wanted to raise a stone wall to help hide a home generator we had installed. This is where Norbert really excelled. He knew that we needed to reinforce the wall to support the generator… and he was right! If your channel drain is being installed in a driveway, then you will need to pour concrete to secure the drain and prevent it from breaking under the weight of your car. For channel drains that you plan on installing on a walkway or underneath a roof or awning, then you can get away with using a compacted fill.

Concrete houses will last for between 75 and 150 years, depending on the environmental factors in your area. Unlike lumber in stick-built houses, concrete doesn’t rot, and it’s more resistant to wildfires and earthquake damage, so you’ll almost always get a longer lifespan from a concrete house than you would a traditionally framed one.

If your epoxy application ended up a bit messy and left spills behind, there are several ways to clean epoxy off of a concrete floor. You can use a power washer with at least 3,000 PSI. However, it may be easier to use a scraping tool or an acidic cleaner, like vinegar, to remove unwanted epoxy. 

If the entire floor has epoxy and you want to remove just excess epoxy stains, these methods could still strip parts of the epoxy floor. Move carefully and in small areas to minimize damage, or call a pro for an expert finish.

Concrete can cure in 24 hours if the temperature remains above 40 degrees, but it might take up to 48 hours for the initial curing if the temperature drops close to freezing. You can speed up the curing process in cold weather by using accelerants, or you can insulate the slab or enclose and warm the area with heaters.

Unfortunately, concrete cracks happen, so there’s no surefire way to avoid them long-term. To slow down the cracking, apply a sealant every two to three years and use sand rather than salt to melt snow or ice. Using salt speeds up the freeze-thaw cycle, which may increase the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, keep vehicles and heavy machinery off of your concrete, as the weight can lead to more cracking.
